We leave on Friday, THIS Friday and DS7 is sick. Fever 102.8 coughing, he sounds like a seal and his chest hurts when he breathes. We have a Dr. appt in an hour and I have already warned him that if there is a shot available we'll be doing the shot and not the meds. We are flying also. We can drive if we really must (12-13 hour drive) but it's such a pain and we would lose a day. Why does this always seem to happen?? :sad1: He's a little upset because he knows that if he is not well enough we will cancel. Disney will always be there and taking a sick child is not worth it to me, I can't take that chance. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

It's only Monday. He has 5 days to recover. If you are taking him in today, my hunch is he will be good to go on Friday. Likely the worst of it will be over by Wed. or Thursd.

 My youngest was running a fever of 102 also the week our trip was planned along with a sinus and ear infection. After a couple of days of antibiotics and TLC he was fine.

He should be fine by Friday. I might still consider driving though. Even if he is felling better, the cabin pressure may bother him.

Good luck!!!!

 My 3 yr old had that croup cough and a fever last Tuesday when I picked her up from daycare. I called work and had them switch my days around so I was off until Sat. (hubbie would have her then) The fever broke late Thursday and she is back at daycare today with only a mild cough and not very often.

Try vicks to open up the breathing. It sure helped my little one. Best wishes to you and your son:hug:

My DD5 started the temp. on Thurs. and it broke by Friday afternoon. By Sat. the barky cough had set in. She is prone to croup and we are really hoping she will start to outgrow it this year. She was hoarse on Sat. day and was only up a few times Sat. night. Better than the all nighters of years past! It really seems like croup is making an early start this year!

We are up north in NH, but I heard there is a virus going around here with a high temp. but it's not lasting too long.

We are sending Disney wishes that your little one gets better soon and you have a great vacation!!! :goodvibes pixiedust:

OK, we are back. He has a bad case of croup. We did a breathing treatment in the office and we were sent home w/ a steriod, an antibiotic and some cough meds. She said she hopes he's better by friday and all the meds are heavy 5 day doses so he would take his last dose friday morning before we leave. She said that if he still has the fever thursday night (said it's worse at night) then don't get on the plane. If the fever breaks then we'll be OK and just take some motrin and the cough meds w/ us. I'm really hoping he'll be OK. Disney will be there later I know that but he's a little upset because I can't say for sure yes or no yet. I guess croup is going around right now. The dr. said she was going to be proactive to it doesn't turn itno pneumonia (sp?).

My niece started with this on Thursday-my sister got her right in at the doc, by Saturday, after 2 days of antibiotics, she was feeling much better. Best wishes for your little one, and for your trip!

You're doing the right thing! I bet he'll be a lot better by Friday. I would think that as long as he's not as sick as he is now, he'll probably be good to go. But I think you're right in delaying Disney if he's really sick. Kids are more important than trips :) Disney will always be there.

Anytime DS gets croup we take him in and the Dr gives him a steroid shot and he usually can sleep through the night after that. He is only 2.5 so maybe it doesn't work on older kids. He should be fine in a few days, the other thing that helps is the steam from the hot shower, we've sat in the dark bathroom at 2am with the hot water running. pixiedust: on a speedy recovery!

Just sending pixie dust:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: We leave on Friday with 2 boys 12 and 9yrs. I have had them on Airborne and those Choroseptic health strips the past 6 days. They are fine thank God, they both have controlled asthma.

Good Luck

His fever finally broke last night so I am hoping for the best. He still sounds awful but that's ok. We kept him home again today and I'm pretty optomistic that we'll be on the plane Friday afternoon. :yay:

That cough is nasty isn't it? You guys we'll be fine. We had stomach bug a few days before we went in Feb. and it cleared uo. One thing that works for that cough is turning on the hot shower and letting them sit in the steam.

We took a road trip last winter and I was reading in Parents magazine how to treat it and DS developed it that night:rolleyes:
