OK you may have noticed my signature has changed.. We're now staying at Port Orleans French Quarter next September :cool1: I've been agonising over whether or not to upgrade to a moderate since I booked so I decided to take the plunge. I'm thinking the included fridge, bigger rooms, quieter atmosphere and other perks will be worth it. I know you guys will think i've done the right thing! (?!) I'm hoping to surprise Steve with the new resort choice when we get there (i'll pay the extra for it myself) but I dunno if I can wait that long!

Port Orleans French Quarter is a wonderful resort, you will love it, DH and I stayed there quite a few times, we found it to be very pretty and relaxing for a couple. The food court is good and it is nice to have a drink at the bar. You have definately done the right thing

Hi Lizzy - I'll let you know if its worth it, I've only ever stayed at ASMo before but in three - yes just three days time I fly out to Pop century then after a week we transfer to POFQ, my first (and last) moderate. will let you know pros and cons when I return.

It'll be worth it!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I haven't stayed there, only eaten in the restaurant, but it was a lovely, quiet resort.

We just got back from POFQ a few weeks ago :)

It is a lovely, beautiful resort with many lovely touches. The boat ride to DTD was fabulous.

It is hard to say whether it's worth it to upgrade or not to be honest, if there are just adults in your party I would say yes without a doubt!

I loved it there but I'm not sure for my family it was worth the extra money over a value (JMHO) but I never begrudge the extra money for a deluxe as I feel you get a lot more for your money then :)

Please don't be deterred by what I'm saying - value is a very subjective thing and my DDs loved the All Stars so much we would have been just as happy there as we were at POFQ.

We're a couple (no kids yet) which is partly what pushed me to upgrade. I know there are kids everywhere at WDW but it seems like POFQ is a bit more peaceful than some of the other resorts which sounds like just the ticket after a busy day at the parks :goodvibes

We went April/May this year. DD is 13 and she absolutely loved the place. Everything is in walking distance and you're not far from MK and EPCOT (you can even see the fireworks). Also, as said above, the boatride to Downtown Disney is fabulous. :thumbsup2

There are a lot of pros to staying at a mod, which is why we're doing it :)

I haven't heard anything but praise for POFQ!!

In that case I think you have made an excellent choice :)

we stayed at POFQ last year and loved it. It is such a small resort that nothing is far away and itis very peaceful and relaxing. he boat to DTD is wonderful and i think we spent more nights than we should of at DTD because of it...lol

The room was a lovely size and very comfortable, having a fridge is really handy. The only problem we have found is it has spoiled us now and we are reluctant to try out the values. Dread to think what will happen after next years trip to AKL :rolleyes1

My next onsite trip I hope to stay at POR or POFQ, havent decided yet

we have just got back from pors and got mixed reviews ,the room is much better (fridge coffee maker ,and bigger }than asm ,the grounds and scenery are really nice and the boat ride to dtd is very relaxing

the housekeeping is pretty poor and i tipped them everyday{they changed the bed twice in 14 days, never wiped the tables and put the hover round no more than 3 times }dont get me wrong we cleaned up what we could, the food court was not as good as asm and the bus service was very bad ,ive been on the usa site and they have the same problem.

pofq is very quite and is alot smaller and is suitable for couples,but only one pool{but good}

anyway hopfully we are going to book for next year -pop or asm,so moderate is not always best, but everyone is different

We stayed here in 2004 and loved this resort! Bus stops and food court etc are only a few minutes walk from any part of the resort and the theming is wonderful! You have made a good choice! :thumbsup2

Hi :sunny:

We stayed there in 2004 and loved it. It is so compact compared to other resorts and the bar is nice at the end of the day as well as its location close to DTD. we also liked the fact we could go over to POR as well.

We have never gone back and stayed at the same hotel twice before but we thought it suited us so well last time we are going again in November.

BTW i've upgraded our stay at HRH to club level as a surprise for DH and its very hard to keep my mouth shut, its only been a week and i'm struggling. Don't know if i'd last 11 months so good luck. :thumbsup2

I hope you complained. If not, I would complain now. Thats dreadful.. and you paid for your room to be cleaned daily... and for a good service.

Upgrading was a smart choice, so long as you can afford it, and won't be scrimping on meals, tickets etc whilst in Walt Disney World. The resort will have a nicer ambience, and also sit down restaurant. Plus, as you already mentioned a fridge in your room is a big plus. Back when disney charged for fridges, I remember people renting them from elsewhere and having them delivered to their resort because it was cheaper!

I prefer getting a better room - some people say they would prefer to buy more souvenirs, but a nice room will enhance your stay more than buying a heap of stuff you will never use.

That's my thinking too.. I bought soo much last time and TBH a lot of the stuff has been forgotten/given away (not so much my park souvenirs but stuff from the malls) so I think the novelty of 'filling my boots' in the US has worn off a bit now  I figure we'll be there for 2 weeks and aren't planning on doing the parks all day every day so a nicer resort will be worth it for somewhere pleasant to rest.
We have free dining so most of our food will be paid for (aside from some offsite meals and basic groceries like water and cereal to keep in the room/save on park water prices!)
The expense was what put me off originally but when I thought about the extra i'd need factored over nearly a year it wasn't all that much really, just a bit of overtime at work which will be easy now that Christmas is coming :hourglass
