Shan, I have never felt our studio views were BAD at OKW... Bad to me is the top of an ugly roof or a dumpster, not lawn and trees and beautiful greenery. There is a laundry room near EVERY pool, so they are not usually crazy-crowded. Yes, folks do hang out by HH. There is a nice "den" near check-in and you can sit. You can also hang out by the main pool/boat dock area. We like to eat at Olivia's for dinner, walk around a bit, then get Mickey Head Bars at the store when our tummies have room and just lurk around eating them. I also appreciate the room size. We love the big queen beds (they are high; you might request the railings for your kids). There is adequate floor space for suitcases and a nice big closet. There is a really large bathroom with space for all your stuff and then the extra sink/kitchenette area. The pools are nice and I think that slide is due to be done by the time you arrive.
I guess trying OKW is a leap of faith. I first stayed there after 3 nights at Beach Club when it first opened (yes, I was there on day 1!). I hated to leave Beach Club -- I kept calling to see if there were cancellations but there weren't -- but we wound up loving OKW. In the many times we have stayed we have never had a room that wasn't spotless or encountered a staff member who wasn't great. It IS different than the Boardwalk area, but that doesn't mean it's not great. If you are fretting, though, you could switch back to Boardwalk area but promise me you will go visit OKW... Get lunch or dinner, swim, and shop. Drive around and look at the buildings and the pools or take a walk on one of the paths. This might be a safe way to "get a feel" for the place!
