Tell Me Everything About Thanksgiving, Please!

Just joining the club! We will be there from 11/24 - 12/1. Maybe I will see some of you there!

mmmcq, i noticed you said you would be at YC during this time, that's where we are staying too! And i will have my dd with me, who is 5 1/2. What days will you be staying there?

As for dinner, TG day, I ate one yr at the Cape May Cafe (right in the BC where we were staying.. ) That was nice. You could just roll us out and back up to our room! LOL
Last yr, we did the HDDR, and it's not my thing.. but my inlaws love it.. So, we go for them. We are doing that again this yr.. (Hey, who can beat fried chicken and beans for TG dinner??!! ) LMAO..
Anyway, Is dinner at the LTT any different on TG than it is other times? We went last yr, but not for dinner on TG. And it was family style turkey and fixins - But, i didn't find it anything to write home about.. It was ok.
The first yr we went we ate at 1900 park fare, which was buffet, and they had traditional turkey too.. That was really good.

disneymoss - We'll be there exactly the same dates. Definitely make your ADR's for T'giving immediately, and for the rest of the week as soon as you can. I asked the same question of these disney veterans, and they convinced me of the need to do so. I was fortunate that my TA was able to schedule all of mine, but she relayed to me that she'd had to make numerous attempts for another client. So, get to reserving!

I'm thinking about making Turkey Day reservations for Raglan Road anyone have any other sugestions? Everything sounds so good how do you choose. I'm on the dining plan and I pulled up all of the Disney Resturants that are on the plan I have no idea on what to choose for remaining days. I welcome any past experiences you want to share with me.

Caitsmama - we'll actually be at the BC....I just forgot to change my signature when I switched locations. I've changed the reservation so many times in the past two weeks that I'm sure some one at WDW is watching and saying "what is that woman's problem". It's just that I booked the trip so late....and there wasn't any availability at our usual resorts (BCV and BWV) so I took OKW instead of worrying about a waitlist. And then to make sure it was all "final" I took two rooms over 11/22 and 11/23 at the BC. We check out 11/24 and head to Tampa for the night.

I specifically chose the BC to be near SAB and Epcot for our last two days. Maybe we can get our little ones together at SAB? We'll be taking it easier the last two days of the trip. DD's 7th birthday is the 20th...so the front end of the trip is busy.

As for Thanksgiving ressies. I asked the CM for suggestions and I can't remember everything she told me, but I opted for 1900 Park Fare because the food sounded reasonable and the decorations are supposed to be great.

WE are spending the day at AK and then heading over to Ohanas for a dinner away from the crowds. We hope to watch the fireworks and water parade there too

I think it was Thanksgiving 2000 that we had freezing weather, but every other year it's been beautiful. We just pack a few warm items in case there is a cold spell. There's been so much great info in the above posts that I'll just post my #1 tip: AVOID MK AT ALL COSTS ON THANKSGIVING DAY! Other than that, you should have a lovely trip. Maybe I'll see you there.........

What a great thread. 2 weeks ago we booked a trip to WDW for Thanksgiving week 2006 and I was on it (the planning of course)

Unfortunatley we just had to cancel (we never told kids we were going because we were surprising them) But we were able to change reservaton to Thanksgiving week 2007. Seems like a LONG time away but we're glad just to have a plan to go. Still keeping this a surprise for the kids who get the whole week of thanksgiving off from school

I noticed the MVMCP this year starts 11-13 and last year started 11-30. I hope it's early again next year so we get a change to go to it.

Right, but the only problem for us anyway, is that the MVMCP skips the week of TG, so we will miss it!!! We arrive on the 19th, and leave on the 25th. That is the only week there is no MVMCP. I am bummed about that!

I have never been to RR, but I have an ADR there for TG dinner. Just a bit of advice, I originally made my ADR for around 6, but I later found out that the entertainment doesn't start until 8 or 8:30. I am not sure how much the entertainment is factoring into your decision to eat there. I called and chaged my ADR to 7:30 because the entertainment is the reason that we decided to go. If you know this already, sorry for the TMI. I have just called Disney Dining so much, I swear they are going to blacklist me any day now.

I haven't read all the replies, but we went over Thanksgiving in 1997 & again in 2003. My advice is to avoid the Magic Kingdom on Thanksgiving Day. During our years it was, by far, the most crowded park. I would plan to be in Epcot for the actual holiday itself. It was easier for us to navigate through Epcot on Thanksgiving last time (wider walkways), than it was to be in MK. If we were to go again on Thanksgiving I would probably choose to go to Animal Kingdom, with an actual Thanksgiving meal at The Wilderness Lodge. The WL seems like it would be a good fit for a Thanksgiving meal.

We are eating an early dinner at 1900 Park Fare. I picked this because we are a large group and everyone might be in a different park that day.......we don't have hoppers. Also, it has a wide variety of food. My DS doesn't like turkey, so LTT wouldn't be the best choice for him. I am hoping that the trip to WDW for Thanksgiving becomes a tradition. I would rather be at WDW than cooking and cleaning all day!!
By the way, are there any special parades, or are they the regular parades that I would see anyway? I doubt that we will get to an afternoon parade anyway because our ressies are for mid afternoon.

Does anyone know the earliest they start taking reservations? They aren't taking them on line yet, but I haven't tried calling.

Hotel reservations can be made up to 499 days in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Our ADR is for 9pm on TG day. I wasn't aware that there was any entertainment there. What is the entertainment?

We were there the last week of Sept. last year and the Osborne lights were already going up.

They are going up now Saw 1/2 the buildings at MGM done the other day. I think they test them very early in the AM.
