Tell me all about the Doubletree Universal Orlando!!

My DH wants to go do Non-Disney stuff at the end of the year when his construction job slows down for the season. I've seen the Doubletree Universal Orlando (at the entrance to universal - not the one on I drive) recommended on numerous sites.

Has anyone stayed there? What were your thoughts? Any reviews, photos, etc. would be appreciated. THANKS!!

Great hotel!! Recently renovated, walk to Universal. Since they are a Universal Partner Hotel you will receive 10% to 15% off many Universal locations. There is a Starbucks in the lobby. The rooms are really a good size and sleep up to 4 with one king or 2 queens. And don't forget the warm chocolate chip cookie at check in!! It was very nice. Clean, large rooms, average sized pool and large hot tub. The pool was shaded by the towers from about 3pm on which might be an issue if you are wanting to soak of the rays.
The room included a small couch/loveseat and had a fridge. Beds were comfy. Housekeeping was fine and we didn't notice too much noise. I managed to snag a deal that included breakfast for four in the hotel restaurant for $80/night. This was a bargain - full buffet breakfast with made-to-order omelets.
We didn't want to pay for parking at the hotel AND universal, so we walked to the parks each day. It took us about 15 minutes. You have to cross one major highway (8 lanes, I think) with a crossing light (safe as long as you use the light and are observant).
I'm sorry I don't have pictures to include. I haven't tried to post pix on here yet and am not sure how. When I was booking, I checked reviews and photos on TripAdvisor. Everything seemed pretty accurate when we got there. Without hesitation, we would stay there again.

It's also a hotel that gets winning bids on Priceline. Both that hotel and the Hyatt next door have been going in the $30's. But you have to be willing to take what you get. If you feel more comfortable knowing in advance where you will stay then Priceline isn't for you.

I just stayed there in July and will be back for a night in May. I really liked the hotel. The rooms were clean and we didn't have any problems staying there.

If you have a car and are going to Universal though, we did find out it was easier and cost the same amount of money to take a cab over to Universal than to park the car. Parking then was $12 and a cab to and from was $6 one way (including a $1 tip). When we found that out we decided to leave the car where it was and cab it to Universal.

There are lots of other hotels in that same area that don't charge for parking.

Hyatt Place Universal is one of them.
