We're going in two weeks and I can let you know more when I get back if I remember who to PM. Everyone tells me gas and food prices are sky high (even the Germans think this and gas prices here in Germany are much higher than in the US). We are renting a house (not in Copenhagen--also on Zealnd Island but to the norhtwest of the city and right on a beach). This will give us more space and also be much less expensive than a hotel (especailly since most hotels here only sleep 2-3; finding a room for four is almost impossible). We will have 6 people and our lodging for the week will run 700 Euro for the 7 nights (includes all taxes, etc.). Having a house also means we can cook our own meals for breakfast and dinner (we will likely pack some lunches as well--DS is a picky eater so it is easier as well as cheaper that way). The entire island has a good network of public transport which we will use extensivly.
There are some deals to be had if you research what you want. We will buy the 72 hour Copenhagen Cards and pack a lot into them (public transport on the island is included with the card so we get that at no extra cost on the days we use hte card). We have one beach day planned but otherwise every day involves visiting 2-3 attractions and we will come out less than 100 Euro per adult and 50 Euro per kids for all entrances, ferries, etc. I would be happy to send you my plans if you want just to see what you "can" do.
I recomend the Lonely Planet guide book to Denmark. I looked at several books and this one seemed the easiest to use.
Have fun
