I think our 12 yr old stove/oven is on its way out. Tonights dinner of Meatloaf took 1 hr 40 mins to cook at 400 degrees. I checked it at 1 hr and the inside of them (i cook 2 at a time) was still extremely raw with lots of red juice running. I dug out the receipt and it is just over 12 yrs old.

It is a GE Spectra- white, smooth cook top- self cleaning. We purchased it at a Sears outlet for $540 w/ tax. I remember researching the brands well before buying-- even purchasing a month of Consumers Report to decide on brand/price.

Looking for another smooth cooktop, self cleaning and possibly a double oven in stainless steel ( current one is the odd duck in the kitchen)

Tell me about your stove-- brand, if you have the double oven, do u have convention -- pros and cons.

Just starting to research it.

DS12 said that we have been having to replace alot of house hould items in the last few years. I had to explain eventually things break down. We have been here 19 yrs in Oct and everything has been replaced once if not twice except for the furnace. Which of course will go during the middle of a blizzard one of these winters! :lmao:

Appreciate any suggestions, recommendations

I too am looking for a new range. I have gas, GE for the past 13 years. I am thinking about going to a dual fuel. I have looked at GE Cafe, Viking designer, and Dacor. Reading reviews will only make you dizzy.

Consumer Reports lists the Kenmore 92163 smooth top electric range #1 on there list. Good Luck !

What about just replacing the burn element in the oven? We did this 2x and our stove is only 5yrs old. It is just a less expensive fix, about $30.

We also have a smooth top, we have had to replace the element 2x, I would never buy this brand again, it is a Frigidaire. Once we redo our kitchen I will be looking for something else as well.

I have a Kenmore Elite that I just love. It is a smooth-top range with the double oven below. The top oven has one rack and the bottom oven has 3 and uses convection. I adore them both. The top oven heats so quickly - less than 5 minutes to heat to 350 degrees. I can turn it on to pre-heat and start mixing a batch of brownies and by the time I'm done with the brownies, my oven is hot. Takes only 2 minutes to broil some garlic bread. Just love that! The lower oven takes longer to heat, of course, but I can do 2 trays of cookies at once and they are both perfectly browned on the bottom. It also has a timed-oven feature that I use when it's my turn to host Sunday lunch for my family after church. That is a really great feature! I just love my oven and hope to use it for many years!

I am also in the market for a new stove.

I want to get convection because right now I have a stand alone convection oven sitting on the counter and would love to get rid of it.

For those with convection, do you love it? Do you find it makes a big difference when cooking things? I know in my little one it does very well.

I have a GE profile smoothtop, how the heck do you keep these things clean!!!!!!It drives me crazy are there special cleaners? Sorry I have no help on what stove to get but if your looking for a fridge I love our Samsung with the freezer on the bottom:)
