Tell me about your shampoo

I've been using Suave - in the orange bottle. I think it's supposed to be equivalent to Matrix. It makes my hair SO shiny and healthy looking. It took me a while to figure out it was the shampoo. LOL! For quite some time, I was thinking, "wow, my hair has been looking good lately" and I went on buying whatever was on sale, I had a coupon for, etc. Then, my hair starting looking dry and frizzy. I bought that Suave again and voila- shiny hair!!! So, I guess I'm sold!

I started using the Aveda shampoo for color treated hair. I think that it is helping keep the color nice. The thing that I've noticed about expensive shampoo is that I use less of it than cheap shampoo. A bottle of expensive shampoo last much longer than the cheap stuff so in the long run I don't think that I'm paying that much more.

We use Toms of Maine's daily baby shampoo. It smells great and it's gentle on color! I use all different kinds of conditioners but my fav. is Redkin Align, it smooths my hair so that it's not frizzy, which it tends to be dry from the chemicals in the pool.

I've been using the Suave "just like Biolage" for a while now...it's pretty nice. LOVE the smell and it works well in my hair. I also buy a tub of L'Oreals "nature's therapy mega moisture conditioner" from Sally's (for the REALLY big tub is $12 - but it lasts forever) to use once a week as a deep conditioner (or just on non-shampoo days)

I've heard BAD things about Pantene...how the conditionar builds up on your scalp (kinda waxy-like) and flakes and looks like dandruff. I've stayed away from it for years.

I use Pantene. My DD is a hair stylist and she says Pantene is just fine.

I am a hairstylist also. I agree with you and your DD about Pantene. The best long hair I see always seems to use Pantene. I always ask and I always get that same answer.
Of course, we all know that many cosmetics and hair products are all owned by the same bigger companies.

Oh, I just read the post above mine. I can say I have never seen that although it could be true. Or it could be that people aren't rinsing well enough. :confused3

I am the biggest cheapskate going. Believe me, if I could get by with the store brands I would. Occasionally, I go back to them to see if they work and my hair is an absolute disaster.

I think it really depends on the kind of hair you have. Let's face it--there are people out there with "great" hair. No matter what they use, I don't think they will notice much of a difference.

But, I think if you are like me and have that baby fine, lightweight, layered hair, you are gonna see the difference. Right now I am using Alterna's Caviar Shampoo. I also use ISO Purifying and another ISO shampoo. They both work wonders. Any Paul Mitchell shampoo makes a disaster of my hair--so does Suave, White Rain, and Clairol Herbal Essence. I've tried the Pantene and it felt like it left a wax on my hair. I used to use Tres Semme and that was just okay. But my hair basically felt so limp.

I also agree with the other poster who said that the salon brands seem to require much less shampoo. Those bottles last me forever. I'm also lucky in that my cousin is a hairdresser and she can get all the salon brands for 50% of the retail price.

I use Pert. Shampoo and conditioner combined (saves time in the AM ;) ) and it's usually between $3-$5 for a prretty good sized bottle.

My hairdresser has told me that shampoo matters less than conditioner. Shampoo is basically just detergent to clean and you could use dish soap and nbe OK, but the conditioner has more of an effect. So pay more for a conditioner if you think it would benefit.

I use sleek by Matrix. It costs around $9 for shampoo and $11 for conditioner. It works great for me :)

Inexpensive store brands tend to weigh my hair down and make it look dull. Well, at least they used to, I haven't tried them in awhile, maybe I should give some of the brands in the above posts a try! I usually use Paul Mitchell or Matrix or Biolage. I have used some of John Frieda's shampoos and conditioners.

I've found that Biolage works best with my hair. Once in a while I'll substitute with Pantene but always go back to Biolage.

I absolutly swear by Aussie Root Cleanser Tip Mender. It's the best. I have fine, limp hair and it really helps.

I use Aussie Moist shampoo - I am spoiled by the large pump bottle!! ;)

You know - when they tell you to so a final rinse to use cold water and it will close the hair cuticle and make it more silky and shiny. It really does work!

I have curly hair so I just use shampoo that doesn't have the very harsh sulfates (sodium/ammonium lauryl/laureth sulfate) and instead go for more gentle cleansers, like cocamidopropyl betaine. It doesn't matter how much it costs. The more expensive brands smell better, but that's all. The drier curly hair is, the frizzier it is. I don't shampoo every day, and my hair is not colored or blow-dried. For me, it's all about the conditioner!

I usually switch out shampoos because I find that no matter how great the shampoo is, my hair gets a lot of build up if I use more than 2 bottles of it in a row. My go to professional brand is Biolage (I also like Aveda) and my go to store brand is Finesse (I also use Dove)

Shampoo and Conditioner makes a HUGE difference for me.
While I agree, that for some hair, it may not be that way.

I haven't tried different brands for a long time now. I use Biolage Moisturizing shampoo with the Biolage Detangling Rinse for my conditioner.

I agree with the other poster who says that many cheaper brands leave my hair lifeless, frizzy, dull, etc.... My biggest complaint is conditioners that leave my hair HEAVY!!! I hate that! The Biolage Detangling Rinse has never done this. It never builds up. I have used these two products for years now without having to change around!

I like to buy different brands of shampoo/conditioner every time I run out of what I'm using. I haven't noticed much difference between the expensive and cheaper brands, though there are some generics that dry out my hair.

My favorites are John Frieda's Sheer Blonde, Aussie Moist, Finesse, and L'oreal Vive. I used to like Salon Selectives a lot, too, but it's not being made anymore, I guess. :(

I've tried Suave "salon formulas" and they're okay, but a bit drying.

I'm one of those crazies that spends tons on salon products.

My shampoo tends to be in flux...for a long time I was using Bumble & Bumble for redheads, shampoo and conditioner. To further add kick to my color I used Bumble & Bumble red hair powder, which rocks and prevents you from having to wash your hair every single day even with fine hair like mine.

Now I'm using Kerastase shampoo and conditioner because I had my hair lightened to take out alot of the red. I think it's supposed to repair demaged hair, which mine would be from the color treatments.

I've also used Terax shampoo and conditioner which I also liked very much.

I use salon shampoos -- used to think they were too expensive, but since I actually use less of it than I do the cheaper brands, it all works out the same. My hair is very curly and I have a lot of it, plus I color it.

My favorite that I always come back to is Nexxus Therappe with some sort of Nexxus conditioner. I've just recently tried Biolage and really like it. I've also been using this olive oil kind (smells absolutely wonderful) from my salon and it works great.

It absolutely makes a difference in my hair.

Right now I'm using Aussie Real Volume. I love Aussie products.

I buy whatever I like the smell of and that promises extra body. Some stuff works better than others. My favorite shampoos for adding body are Aussie Real Volume, Alberto V05 Extra Body, Nexxus VitaTress Biotin, Back to Basics Vanilla Plum. They all give my hair a little boost that it desperately needs. I have to switch back and forth, after about 2 weeks my hair stops responding to a product, not sure why that is.......
