I must admit, I'm cheap. I usually just pick up whatever is on sale. I always figured shampoo is shampoo. I have a friend who has fabulous hair. She buys expensive shampoo from a salon, at about 20$ a bottle. I'm can't remember what kind she says it is. Do you think these expensive shampoos really make a difference. I'm considering buying some just to see if it makes my hair look or feel any different. What do you use? :sunny:

I used to use Joico products on my hair. I don't know if they worked or not. Now I use Pantene b/c we are not as cash heavy as we used to be. But I plan on switching back to salon products once I can afford it.
I have heard that Redken works wonders......

I want my hair to smell good, but not girly

Nope, I'm a firm believer in $$$$ does not = good as far as that goes. My favorite shampoo/conditioner is Finesse (yeah, it's a little more than, say, suave), but it's definitely not $20 per bottle!!! It's $2-$4 per bottle, depending on the size. You can get a 25 ounce size at walmart for $3.97. I also like suave and it is usually like 97 cents per bottle at walmart. I also LOVED Salon Selectives, but apparently they no longer make shampoo/conditioner! Just styling products!! I did recently find some at Big Lots and Ollie's Bargain Outlet and picked some up while they still have it. I also recently bought some V05 and am gonna give it a try. It was like 99 cents per bottle at kmart, so I figure if I don't like it, I didn't spend much.

I like to get samples of different brands to try them out. That's an inexpensive way of trying out new brands.

I use Kiwi which is only sold in salons. This shampoo and conditioner is more expensive, but it helps my color not fade as fast.

For 9 years I used Loreal and this new Kiwi item definitly makes a difference. I'm not having to dye my hair as often and my hair is not like straw from the color.

So for me, more $$$$ does make a difference.

I have used salon products for along time.....can't even imagine using store stuff, it makes my hair dull, drab and lifeless.

My favorites are Matrix and TG and occasionally a Back To Basics.

ITA with you!!! I love finesse shampoo and all I use is suave conditioner on my hair and I have really curly hair so people think that I use really good products and I dont. I use conditoner thats only 97 cents and its not because of the price it really does a good job!

I've used everything from Suave (99cents!) to Biolage to Matrix and I have seen no difference at all. I guess some people can see it, but I can't and I can't justify dropping that kind of cash on stuff that doesn't work.

Right now I'm using Bath and Body Works shampoo and conditioner because it was 75% off in June. Last week I was using Salon Selectives. There is no difference between my hair this week or last. I occasionally use DHs PertPlus and again - styles the same, looks the same. *shrugs*

Maybe you can buy a bottle and just see if you see a difference?

okay, i swear the only reason i know this is because my mom is a rabid Hair... cutter. well, i hate my semi curly hair, so she bought me a shampoo that kind of makes it less curly. well, it works. Also, 20 bucks is the cheapest at her salon. ridiculous, huh?

I have used the expensive salon stuff, and I have used the cheap stuff - I mean really cheap, like Suave. I can't really tell that the expensive shampoo makes my hair look or feel any better than the drugstore shampoos, so I buy from the drugstore! What I have found is that my hair looks and feels best when I switch back and forth between brands. So I've found two I really like - Herbal Essence and Aussie Moist. When I run out of one brand, the next time I buy the other.

I find that for keeping color lasting longer in between coloring, a professional product always works better than a cheaper one. I swear by Redken Color Extend.

I think a good quality (available only at salons) shampoo and conditioner does make a world of difference with color treated or permed hair.

I've been using Biolage and Paul Mitchell products for years. Every now and then I'll try something new like Kiwi, but Biolage seems to work best for my hair.

I can use the cheap stuff for a few shampoos if I run out of Biolage, but that's it. My hair will let me know it's time to go back to Biolage!

I used White Rain then switched to expensive stuff, then went right back to White Rain... the 99 cents stuff made my hair softer then the $5 stuff..

I can get away with cheap shampoo if I use a good conditioner. I really like Pantene shampoo with aveda conditioner. It's a good combination and the aveda products smell really good.

I am of the opinion that if you use a shampoo formulated for your hair type that it doesn't matter too much. Basically the first couple ingredients tend to be much the same in all shampoos.
There will always be ones that work better for your hair than others & switching around seems to be popular even though the "tests" say it isn't true (I do it too).

Kiwi is my favorite. Biolage is my second favorite. My DD uses Herbal Essences Oily hair shampoo and nothing else works as well for her. I buy salon brands at cost and I still think they are expensive!

I get my hair cut and colored about every 6 weeks or so. I bought a really expensive shampoo for color. I then tried using Suave w/ a Ph balance and it works just as good. I don't buy the expensive stuff anymore.

Shampoos do make a huge difference to me. However just because it is costly does not mean it is good for your hair. I did a wee bit of research (reading other reasearch) and I found that Finesse Moisturizing shampoo was rated very well... up there with many salon brands... guess what I switched to and use? ;)

Seriously it works better than the salon brands I have used in hte past and it only runs me $3 a bottle (can't beat the price even when I was paying deeply discounted prices... could get shampoo/conditioner at cost)

I use Pantene. My DD is a hair stylist and she says Pantene is just fine.

A lot of the cheap shampoos have an ingredient that dries out my hair, but White Rain regular, and Suave clarifying does great.
I love Finesse, Vive, Fruitis, Dove, Pantene and even a local store brand. They are really good for dry hair. But, my hair doesn't really need them anymore.
