Tell me about your floors.

Our home has hardwood floors throughout the house, except the family room (carpet) and the kitchen and baths (vinyl tile). I love the tile and the hardwood. I find that I really don't like carpet. Stains are just too much work to get out, and you have to steam clean it once a year to keep it from looking dingy, and I still have worn spots in high traffic areas.

The hardwood and vinyl floors do need to be swept and mopped, but if something gets spilled or the dog makes a mess, it's no big deal to clean up and there are never any worn spots and it never looks dingy (well, as long as I keep up with the mopping!).

Mercy ~ very nice kitchen flooring.

We have white ceramic tile with a taupey swirl going thru that it almost looks like marble. We also have a very light beige grout. It looks awesome & it's in our kitchen, dining area (not formal diningroom) & foyer & hallway leading to & including the laundry room. I just use the dustbuster during the week or the wetjet swiffer to clean up spills but then on the weekend, my DH washes the floor :goodvibes with vinegar & water. Looks awesome. After nearly 10 years, we did have a company come in & steam the grout (they used something like a pressure washer only it sucks in the water as soon as it shoots it out) & WOW it looked like new again! I had forgotten how light it was!! I think tile is easy to maintain. A good tip I got though when shopping for tile (from a cousin that had 3 boys) was to buy a commercial grade which is much more durable than regular ceramic tile. It proved to be a good move because with all the stuff that's been dropped on my tile, nothing has happened to it. The only thing that ever caused a tiny little dent in my tile was when I had the handy man over installing crown moulding in my kitchen & he dropped his hammer. I nearly had a stroke! But when I went to look, it was a teeny tiny spot which he quickly just dabbed some white paint on & no one can locate it. Whew!

Our bathrooms have tile & the rest of the house carpet. I am really starting to hate carpet.

We have carpet in bedrooms, hallways, and family rooms.
Bathrooms have vinyl. (I hated the ceramic tile we had. Too cold for our winters and when I swept everything went into the grout grooves. In the kitchen whenever I dropped something it shattered.)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE our kitchen and entry flooring. It's a laminate like Pergo but looks like stone. It interlocks and is smooth, so no grout lines. And the pattern hides everything. Here's a picture:

We used to have tile in the kitchen & entryway, vinyl in the bathrooms & carpet everywhere else. Last year we pulled out all of the tile & replaced the carpet. The tiled area & some of the previously carpeted area became covered with cork. I LOVE everything about it. We did the tongue & groove planks and it was fairly easy to install. We did 1000 sq ft in a weekend. I love the way it looks. I love way it feels. It isn't hard like tile. I like to cook & standing on the tile was just killing my back. It is easy to care for (just sweep & damp mop). I alos like the fact that it harvested from the bark of a tree & not he actual tree, so it keeps growing back. It also a repellant to certain insects. Termites are one of the insects that don't like the cork flooring. We have also noticed that we haven't seen a scorpion in the house since we installed the cork.

It is soft, so it does get slight indentations. Since cork is full of tiny air bubbles, the compression is supposed to go away in time.

Here are some pics of the installation and finished floor.

Thanks for sharing the pictures.

choc, I actually like your floors better before

Mercy, Your flooring was beautiful!!

I would love to have wood flooring. We have an older house so I am sure the original hardwood floor is under the carpet but I am afraid it would be in rough shape.
