Our home has hardwood floors throughout the house, except the family room (carpet) and the kitchen and baths (vinyl tile). I love the tile and the hardwood. I find that I really don't like carpet. Stains are just too much work to get out, and you have to steam clean it once a year to keep it from looking dingy, and I still have worn spots in high traffic areas.
The hardwood and vinyl floors do need to be swept and mopped, but if something gets spilled or the dog makes a mess, it's no big deal to clean up and there are never any worn spots and it never looks dingy (well, as long as I keep up with the mopping!).

with vinegar & water. Looks awesome. After nearly 10 years, we did have a company come in & steam the grout (they used something like a pressure washer only it sucks in the water as soon as it shoots it out) & WOW it looked like new again! I had forgotten how light it was!! I think tile is easy to maintain. A good tip I got though when shopping for tile (from a cousin that had 3 boys) was to buy a commercial grade which is much more durable than regular ceramic tile. It proved to be a good move because with all the stuff that's been dropped on my tile, nothing has happened to it. The only thing that ever caused a tiny little dent in my tile was when I had the handy man over installing crown moulding in my kitchen & he dropped his hammer.
I nearly had a stroke! But when I went to look, it was a teeny tiny spot which he quickly just dabbed some white paint on & no one can locate it. Whew!
