The combination of a 20% AP discount and the possibilty of having a beer at lunch tempted me into making a lunch ADR at Skipper Canteen. I've had a look at the menu and red reviews but was wondering what everyone here has enjoyed at this restaurant.

It's lunch and I'll be paying OOP so would like to keep it under $25/entree. The curry stew looks good but I'm open to pretty much anything!

Thanks!

I had the Char Siu Pork and I thought it was delicious. Good sized portion as well. Interestingly, our server wanted to make sure we knew this dish was made with a pork shoulder and can be a little tough/chewy but indicated that was how the dish is made. I didn't find it chewy at all and it was quite tender. My husband had the Tastes Like Chicken Because it is dish and he said that it was very good as well.

The bread they serve is also quite delicious. The bread is made with cardamom I believe and is served with a honey flavored with a floral tasting herb that I never heard of before. The honey was a bit too much for me (not a fan in general of strong floral flavors) but the bread was good without.

I don't believe they serve beer there... only BoG has beer/wine?

I'm surprised you haven't seen it yet @Lisa F They announced last week that beer and wine are now being offered starting 12/23, I believe, at 4 MK restaurants: LTT, Skipper Canteen, CRT and Tony's Town Square.

Ate there in September and absolutely loved it!
I had Skip's beefy mac n cheese bake (I think that's what its called lol) and it was delicious.
It along with the green beans had plenty of flavor without being overwhelming.
My sister got the Dr Fall's steak which came with fried potato bites. She also found it was flavored well without being too overwhelming.
We each took a bite of each other's main dish and side dish and we both agreed that they were both very good!

last week was my disney detox week after my trip, lol, and of course all hell broke loose at work. I worked on my dining report a couple of evenings but that is it. I should find the thread on this... I bet it is um... interesting.

Of the two entrees we tried, the "A Lot of Steak" Salad was pretty good. The dressing was tasty and there was a nice amount of steak.

I think the Arepas (on appetizer menu but could make entree) are very very good
they are gone :( replaced by something similar but much smaller (I had it a two weeks ago)

Ordering the arepas as an entree was my mother's plan. She was very disappointed when we reviewed the menu over the phone a couple nights ago and saw it was gone . I'm disappointed too, since it was the only app that interested me.

it was my plan as well. I have a review and photo of the replacement on my dining review if you are interested. it was good and hit the spot for what I was craving (have not had the arepas yet so I can't compare but it is NOT entree sized for sure)

Went in Oct.
I had the Char Sui Pork. It was flavored very well but it was a little fatty
Dh had the chicken and loved it
Ds had the noodle bowl. It was huge but he said it was not hot so he asked them to heat it up. They said they had to go make him another one. He really liked it too..
As the other pp said the bread was interesting. I thought it was a little dry but the honey dipping sauce that came with it was good.

My son's critique of the mac and cheese is that it was cool too but he was so hungry he wouldn't let me send it back. Wonder if it is an issue they have there. I found the bread dry too but I think it's just the texture of that type of bread. it was good with the honey and i loved the flavor.

I'm still on the fence about trying this on our upcoming trip. We are already eating at two Asian inspired restaurants that week and we usually never eat dinner in MK. But I really want to try it!

Do you know if the curry is more Indian style? Or like a Thai curry?

my first four meals on my last trip were Skipper Canteen, Sanaa, Tusker House, Yak and Yeti. I didn't feel it was too much (and I worried I might)
