we're staying at the yacht club (YAY) in august and are considering either yacht club galley or yachtsman... im leaning toward yachtsman... both dh and (especially) i love steak...

the second half of my thought is that maybe we'd enroll the kids in kids' club that evening while we go to dinner...

any thoughts?

I've never been to the galley, so I can't compare. Yachtsman is very good. We took our kids when we went and they enjoyed it too. But... If you are looking for great steak sans kids, then you might think about Shula's at the Dolphin (not DDP though). You can check and see if they still offer it, but they were offering 2 hours of childcare free at there kids club at the Dolphin if you were dining at one of there restaurants. I think the kids have to between 4-12. When you consider the price at both plus childcare, then Shula's would be the better deal if they are still offering the childcare.

ooh, that is a nice idea... shula's and free kid-care... and that would free up some dining credits to go to the HDDR or the luau! hmmm... now i'm going to read shula's menu! LOL!

thanks :)

Yactsman serves a good steak, and is a nice atmosphere. You would definately like it.

i just checked out shula's menu... it's a bit pricey... when i could get (almost?) as good a meal at the yachtsman for free...

thanks firemanx, i think you're right... it looks nice, and has the bonus of being in our resort...

We've been to both Yacht Club Galley and Yachtsmen Steakhouse for dinner. The Galley does have steak. In fact, my husband got it and actually didn't need ketchup! (trust me, that usually causes the Earth to stop rotation for a bit). But, for STEAK, go to Yachtsmen. One word of warning on the garlic spread for the bread. It's, um, well, not weak. It's very good, though. I'm not a big fan of garlic but I did my fair share of damage to it. My husband really demolished it and then was embarrassed when our server brought over another ramekin without us asking (he said "I took notice someone was enjoying this so much"). If you partake in the spread that much you will, um, have a certain odor around you for a couple of days. For that trip, my husband was Garlic Boy.

Yacht Club Galley would be a great place for breakfast or lunch. It's now one of my favorite restaurants.

Yachtsmans Steakhouse would definately be my choice for dinner.

I had an excellent meal there in January 2006-- after flying in it was nice to have a really good meal. I can honestly say that everything was excellent, although I had to roll myself out of there when all was said and done. :rotfl:

If you wanted to try them both, then I would recommend Yacht Club Galley for breakfast. They have some really unique things and the Crab Cake Benedict is excellent.

Hope that helps!

oooh, my dh is a garlic fanatic... that might have cinched the deal for us! LOL!

thanks for the info everyone... would you recommend Galley breakfast over Cape May breakfast? (although i'm sure the kids will prefer the character meal... maybe we'll have to have two TS breakfasts!)

The two restaurant can't be compared. One is a an up-scale steakhouse and the other more of a mid priced casual dinning spot. Both are great. We enjoy eating lunch at the Gallery.
Although Shula's is more money don't let people fool you into thinking they are the same. I have eaten at both and Shula's wins hands down.

You are really lucky to be staying in such a wonderful resort! :) We liked the Yachtsman (although not the best on property for steak --- Narcoossee's is) and found the food and service to be great. You'll enjoy it there. The Galley is much louder and cramped in my opinion.

Trust me, your husband will love the garlic spread.

I'm not goig to recommend either place for breakfast but here's what you will encounter with each.

Cape May is the character breakfast so more upbeat, more fun, more kid freiendly.

Yacht Club Galley does have a buffet but it's more of a "stay in your seat and have a conversation" type place. More adult. Beautiful restaurant, though. So is Cape May but it's usually a little frantic so you don't see it.
