When my DH first wanted to stay at the WL for our Thanksgiving trip I wasn't too thrilled. I wanted the GF. The difference in price is a little more than $100 a night (for the GF). I thought the WL would be "too western, country, campy, masculine" for me. I researched, looked at photos, read reviews, watched my Great Hotels episode about 100 times. I booked a woods view for five nights ( all the grandparents came along, so that was 3 rooms). I made PS's for Whispering Canyon (breakfast and dinner) , for Artist Point for the adults and the Cub's Den for my son (age 6).
Okay....
When we drove up to the lodge, all of my fears and apprehension went right out the window. WOW! Pictures and video do not do this place justice. It was so beautiful! We walked into the lobby and it was all decorated for Christmas, with a huge tree and music. Our room was nice and overlooked the otter pond. We were only on the second floor and could still see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom every night! The lodge is very compact and even though our rooms were all spread out, it just took a minute or two to get from one room to another.
The boat to the Mk was nice, relaxing and quick enough. We also took the boat to the Contemporary for Thanksgiving dinner at Chef Mickey's. We did take a bus to the AK and it was quick (we only stopped at the GF). We drove to Ecpot and MGM.
Whispering Canyon was wonderful! So was Artist Point! Our son loved the Cub's Den so much that he wanted to stay longer. Roaring Forks was great for a quick breakfast or snack-they also have lunch and dinner items.
My son really loved the pool. We all had a great time. WL is probably my favorite resort overall....and I thought I would hate it!
