DH cannot be out of contact with work for 7 straight days. While he won't be connected to work every day he will need to check in once and awhile. I think I read that it would cost 89.00 for Wifi for your whole cruise? Is this correct? Are there any limitations or extra fees?

There are internet packages available. See this post for the costs:

One note, internet use at sea can be fairly slow, especially if you are using it during a time when there are a lot of others. We've found it best to use it early, early or late (after the late show).

Also remember, your phones background tasks (updates, back-ups, location, notifications, etc.) may use data once you are connected to the WiFi (which you will be if you are also using the DCL Navigator App, which I highly recommend). I know on an Android device, you are able to edit the WiFi settings and mark the "DCL-GUEST" SSID as a metered network, so it will be more cautious with background tasks. I don't recall if there is an equivalent on iOS (iPhones). Because Connect@Sea is a charged per MB, not time, you will definitely want to monitor this.

You might be better off finding a port with a free Wifi location. We hit up a Hard Rock Cafe for lunch in Grand Cayman and had really decent speeds on their free Wifi. If he only needs to check in one or two days, that may be your better option if the price and speed are the issue.

What about the free 50mb that you get signing up for it on the first day?

We always get the max package and have to work to burn it by the end of the trip. One thing we *don't* do is use mobile devices to hook up to our package. Laptop only. That way we don't have to worry about as many background app refreshes, updates, etc.

What about it?
Oops, yeah should be more precise. Does anyone know if that amount of data (50mb) will be enough to check email for maybe 15-30 minutes each day on a 4-day? I don't plan on doing anything other than that, no social media, no streaming, no Googling, etc. Email only on a laptop.

Depends on how much email you get. I would say 50mb won't make it.

DW, who was hardly on her phone at all, barely stayed at 50 on our last 7 nighter. DD and I split the 1gb plan, and pretty much used the whole thing.

We signed up for the 50MB package on our 4 night and each of our 7 night B2B cruises. We had plenty of time(?) to check emails and do a little internet surfing. But my husband turned off everything that uses up data (like pictures) when you're on the internet. That was both of us checking emails, usually at least every other day.

You could upgrade to one of the Royal Suites :-) . That way you would get free unlimited internet (well, it actually gets charged to your room and then credited back)

50 MB is nothing....just saying :)

The free time is hit or miss. Mine was "used" before I could even log onto email and I had turned off all extra data. It was super slow loading email and then is said my allotment was gone. YMMV.

Sign up for the free 50 mb package and see how long it lasts, then buy more (or not) based on that usage. Understand that Internet access might not always be available, that latency will be poor and that bandwidth may be constrained at peak times.

I agree with the other posters about not using mobile devices without turning off all the apps that eat away at your MBs. I purchased a 300mb package and it was gone in one day because I forgot to turn it all off. I sent and received emails and posted a couple pictures online but the majority of the package was eaten up by background stuff. You can pay as you go so if you run out you can quickly and easily purchase another package. The connection can be slower but he should still have the ability to connect through most of your cruise.

Automatic app updates are a huge thing people forget about. Turn that off!

fyi.... it's $89 for ONE gigabyte.... not the entire cruise. My iPad update burned through 300mb in minutes. Not making that mistake again.

My DCL Wonder cruise was 24Mbps download when I tested it.

I only did a full email check once and the other times (maybe 3-4) just sent emails to my kids.
Used 49 of the 50 MB
