Tell me about WDW in October

We usually go to WDW the first week of December. For 2015 we are thinking about going in October so we can make the most out of our Annual Passes and go to the Halloween Party. How are the crowds that time of year? How is the availability of DVC Rooms? Is it harder to get into resorts at 7 months out like early December?

The middle two weeks should not be too bad (10/17 and 10/24).

Food and Wine is going on so Epcot might be hairy. BCV and BWV at 7 months will probably be impossible. Really can not offer anything on the other resorts.

I suspect, based on the points charts (I own at BW, so make my October reservations at 11 months out) only, that most DVC resorts *other* than the Epcot ones should be do-able at 7 months out. No guarantees on the Epcot ones, though.

I have been going in October for pretty much 15 years now. Epcot, in the afternoons, can be a bit overwhelming but I don't think it's terrible. I did discover this last trip that Magic Kingdom on a Monday really isn't a very good idea (though I think that's true regardless of what time of year you go.) But I generally feel that October, especially the latter half of October, is about the best time to go in terms of crowds and weather. Note that I don't go to Epcot at all on the weekends; I'm usually gone by then but even when I'm at WDW I won't go to Epcot on the weekend because - and only because - of the Food and Wine Festival. But it is nice to have that going on during the week and, as you mentioned, if you want to go to a Disney party they have the Halloween ones going on.

We have done the same thing as we have went on the 1st or 2nd week of December the last 2 years. We have also been a couple of times in October and the weather has been great but Epcot can really get crowded on the weekends because the locals come in. We bought an AP as well while we were there and made a reservation for the first week of October at VGF for a 1 bedroom. We also like the halloween party and haven't done it in a few years so we thought it was time to go back!

Thank you for your input! We are thinking the Third week of October and staying more towards a MK resort. We have 2 girls and spend a majority of the time there anyway. Definitely will do the Halloween Party. I was just a little nervous for some reason haha! For the past 7 yrs we always go first week of December so its time for a change.

I don't think it's as hard as early December, but it is still a very very popular time for DVC bookings. If I were you, I would make my plans as soon as I possible to make sure I could get what I wanted.

I think any MK or Epcot resort starts to fill relatively quickly that time of year.

I thought it was fairly busy, and I don't like crowds, but all told, it's my favorite month to go (we're going 10/18-10/26 next year). The weather is just perfect to me, and although it's busier than I might like, the super-slow times tend to have cold weather and lots of attraction rehabs. Looking forward to October 2015!

I was just down there in October for 10 days. The weather was great. 85 every day w/o a single drop of rain. A light jacket was needed at night. As far as crowds, it was busier than I had expected. Watch out for strollers in MK, in particular, because there were an incredible number.
