OK, our trip at Easter is off due to work. So now we are thinking about Xmas time in Colorado. We thought Vail or Beaver Creek. Any info on where we should choose to use our points? Any pros or cons for where and when to go? Any info at all will be greatly appreciated. I need to make a decision and try to book this week. HELP! Thanks a million in advance!!

One more question, are there any special activities at Xmas time that we should be aware of? Thanks again.

We just bought a week at Sheraton Mt Vista in Avon - haven't been yet so I can't help you - but check the discussion board at TUG and read the Western US section - or post a question there- there is also a website about the area - it might be beavercreek.com - try a search if that doesn't work...It looks like a beautiful area and I'm sure Christmas time is very active.

I called member services about trading points and trying to get ski location during Christmas, we thought about Colorado, or Utah. Member services was very discouraging. They said, pretty much don't even think you will end up getting a trade for this time frame. THose people who own those timeshares for that time period always use them, or if they don't want to they rent them for top dolllar. THey never deposit them into II. So I can put a request in for you, but I wouldn't hold out to much hope for it. Has anyone ever tried this, or had success during a peak period such as Christmas?

Like DVC, those owners rarely trade and if they don't use it, will rent it our for more than the value trading. Same can be said to a large degree for Feb through Mid April. Jan is a good time to go if you can. Trading timeshares takes nerves of steel and a willingness to be flexible. Saying I want Xmas and are willing to take any one of 10 resorts is not flexible. Flexible would be you could take any time from Xmas to Easter at say 10 resorts. Rent out your points and looking to do something cash might work better.

The above idea applies to all prime time trades including HH in mid Summer, Caribbean (including KW and Cancun) for winter, CA coast for mid summer, etc. If one can stretch it to the shoulder weeks they will be better off. Those locked into school holidays will have a tough time trading timeshares unless they are willing to go to places others don't want to go or at times others don't want to be there. That's why for most people it's better to buy what you will use then trade it occasionally, especially for those that are novice's to timesharing (and DVC doesn't count).

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like we will try for next spring break and go to Keystone with the concierge collection. If we can't use points, we'll just do cash. I appreciate the info!

With the way the system works it never hurts to try. Put in the request you want then see what happens. There is no risk as long as you don't accept the exchange when they call.
