Tell me about Trader Sams

I am an introvert and it was just too much for me. Dark, kinda loud, antics, very very sweet drinks...
I'm glad I went once to experience it for myself.
I would prefer to sit outside next time and enjoy the ambience.

I loved it, DW and DD were less enthusiastic. Drinks are pricey, but I think they are the best mixed cocktails on property. I generally don't care for super noisy places, but I thought the antics were fun. We did not go out on the patio, but depending on when you travel, it could be pretty hot out there. :earsboy:

- I was there on June 6th at about 8:30 pm. There was no wait to get in. My experience, here and in California, is that people don't really camp out for the night. Everybody just has 1 or 2 drinks and moves on.

- the drinks are expensive. $8-$15 (as I recall) depending on the drink you get. There are no prices on the menu. Just close your eyes when you sign the bill.

- You're basically in the middle of a show. There are a lot of silly antics going on - including the misting of water. Normally, I would hate something like that, but it's not that bad, here.

Any chance you can buy the souvenir glass without the drink inside? I'd love to pick up one or two when I visit the Poly for the Luau, but I don't want to hold up my family. If I'm going to get a specialty drink like that, I don't want to rush it.

We went on a Tuesday night last month around 6:00, there was no wait inside. The 3 of us had a good time, we stayed about an hour. I got the volcano drink, it was $22 with the souvenir glass. You don't keep the glass you drink from. You take the receipt to the desk at the door and they give you a new one packed in a box. One of my friends had the sinking chair, it was hilarious.

I did it once and would return but not for more than 2 drinks. This is mostly because the antics occurred on every drink ordered by everyone we saw the krakatoa antic four times before finishing one drink and the nautilus one twice.

It was also pricey especially with the souvenir glasses, which is somewhat understandable but I feel like it should be more subsidized than it actually is. 2 single person drinks ran over $40 with tax/tip. The drinks meant for two or more people definitely didn't look like as good of a deal as CMs were really into the antics and some of the better CMs we had overall the whole trip.

It was still fun and if I went back it'd be for another set of souvenir glasses and the good CM experience. It's disconcerting to see that others in this thread had subpar CM experiences as that was one of the factors of me returning.

Additionally, I don't enjoy drinking in the hot weather so the A/C inside was why we decided on the inside even with the Dole Whip machine servicing the Spikey Pineapple cocktail trying to lure us outside.

Agreed. I've been to both versions of Trader Sam's and the CMs were +++.

Ty for sharing all the info!
I'd like to take my son there the day he turns 21 for a drink or 2.
It will be our first time in TS 's

So has anyone here ever experienced a wait for the patio? Just looking for a nice place to grab a drink or two by the MK one night next week!

As pp has mentioned, if you want a quieter experience, take the drink outside to the patio--it's great out there. Was there in May and it was very quiet--I think people at just one other table--lovely spot on the water with the piped in music.
is this a potentially good place to watch wishes? And are kids allowed on the patio after 8?

We went over Christmas and loved it. The bar only had stools available. My mom has a bad leg, so we chose to sit outside.

It was a lot of fun - an underrated experience that wound up being one of our favorite nights. It was warm outside, so we were able to really enjoy our drinks and sit outside. There was live music and everything.
