I needed to make one more ADR so we decided to do the Yachtsman Steakhouse since DH loves steak. Can anyone tell me anything about it - good or bad?

I have eaten there twice. I loved it both times. Kind of a hidden gem!! (for now at least)

Hubby and I celebrated our 11th Anniversary there on December 17, 2007. We had a wonderful meal and experience there. Our waitress was wonderful and she even took pictures of us with the cake that I ordered ahead of time. They gave us personalized menu's which I still have too.

We ordered the Lobster Bisque which was delicious and Caesar salad for appetizers. I LOVED the onion rolls that they brought to the table but hubby is leary of "different" foods, :rolleyes1 so he didn't try them.

We knew ahead of time that we wanted the Chateaubriand for Two which was AWESOME!! It is not on the menu anymore but apparently it can be ordered according to a fellow poster. We loved the idea of splitting this wonderful meal together.

The atmosphere was nice, a bit dark and we had a table next to the windows overlooking SAB which was closed at this point.

I am sure you will have a wonderful meal there!

Melissa

Thanks! I haven't heard much about it so I was a little leary of eating there.

i ate there on our NYE trip. The resort was beautiful. we left from DHS and took the ferry boat, however... the boat took FOREVER! luckily we planned on spending some time walking around so we we're not late. Anyway, the resort was so pretty w/ the Christmas decorations, they had a huge village display. The restaurant was nice as well. We didnt have to wait long to be seated, as you walk to be seated you see the chef area and also pass by some desserts. We had a window seat which was nice, it was in the domed roof room. Our server was a nice older proper man. He was not too friendly if you know what i mean, but he certainly did what we was supposed to. The bread was great, especially the onion rolls! i had a virgin daquiri on the dining plan for my drink. very good. then i had this appetizer with shredded beef in little pastry shells, excellent! the steak dinner was good as well. the dessert was dissapointing b/c i chose the napoleon and pictured well, a Napoleon but it came as something completely different. it looked pretty but didnt taste it, it had the texture and taste of a dessert that was meant to be looked at, not eaten. my DH had the creme brulee and liked that. we got chocolates that came on a congratulations plate and personalized menus for our honeymoon. overall it was good, but i would'nt go back since it was 2 ts, i enjoyed many other places more.

Here is our review of Yachtsman from May, 2008. We LOVED it. IN fact, we are going back this coming May to celebrate our 15-year anniversary.

Our reservations at the Yachtsman Steakhouse were for 7:20pm. We arrived about 7:15pm and were seated around 7:30pm or so. Our servers were Bill and Eric. They explained that they work as a team and that either could help us at any time. Of all the great service we had at all the Disney restaurants, this was the best. These two guys probably make a LOT of money, because they worked their tails off. Not only do they serve, they bus the tables, set up linens, etc.

Bill was the server that took our order. He was a well-experienced server that could have been working in any fine restaurant anywhere in the world. His attention to detail was flawless. He made terrific recommendations from the menu selections.

My original intent was to have the lobster bisque as my appetizer. However, after hearing Bill describe the menu, I decided to order the chilled seafood salad. He said the lobster bisque was great also, but was very filling. I took his advice and ordered the chilled seafood salad. It was incredible!

Now, this is a BIG statement...but I must say this was my favorite appetizer throughout our entire trip....better than the awesome cheddar cheese soup at Le Cellier...and even better than that terrific seared ahi tuna at Yak & Yeti.

DS had the Seared Maine Diver Scallops. They were outstanding!

DW had the Crispy Fried Rock Shrimp. I hate to say it, but it was not good AT ALL. In fact, it was pretty bad. (****NOTE: They have taken this item off the menu!****)

DD had the Chicken Noodle Soup. Again, she still wasn't feeling great, so she just ate a few bites.

I won the battle of the appetizers. Yay me! Thanks for the suggestion, Bill!

For our entrees, DW & I had the Chateaubriand. It was outstanding! Melt in you mouth...wonderful!

I ordered an Amberbock draft to go with my steak.

Here is a blurry picture of the mushrooms that came with our Chateaubriand. They were delicious!

DS had the Boneless Lamb Loin. It was wonderful also! This was DS's first time to try lamb. He liked it, but not as much as his beloved seafood. I can't even imagine myself trying lamb at 11! I was really proud of him. I ended up eating part of it myself and it was fantastic.

DD had the Grilled Fish with Mickey-shaped pasta. The pasta didn't come with anything on it! No cheese sauce or anything...just plain! It almost didn't matter anyway, because DD was just not feeling well. (Besides...she's a dessert girl!)

For dessert, DS had the creme brulee. He loved it!

I cannot remember the name of what DW ordered for dessert, but it was amazing! It was her favorite dessert up to this point of the trip. It was something like a triple chocolate dessert:

DD had the cutest dessert! It was a white chocolate puzzle that you paint yourself! She had fun with it.

After eating my chilled seafood salad, a bite of DS's scallops, my steak, part of DS's lamb, and mushrooms, I was absolutely stuffed...so I passed on dessert altogether. Bill insisted, "but the dessert comes with your meal on the Deluxe Dining Plan!" I told him, "I don't care! I don't want it!"

With the exception of DW's appetizer, our dinner experience at Yachtsman was wonderful. I would give it a 10 on service, a 10 on my appetizer, but about a 3 on DW's appetizer, a 9 on the Chateaubriand, a 9 on the lamb, about a 4 on DD's entree, and a 9.5 on the desserts overall. That makes it hard to come up with an accurate overall rating, but I would rate the entire experience about an 8.5.

Again, I cannot say enough about the service. Without the Dining Plan, this would have been an expensive meal, and I still tipped about 30%. (I will tip well if service is exceptional.)

The atmosphere was less conducive to families with kids, but there were still plenty of families with kids in the room. If you have well-behaved children, you should have no problems at all. I would definitely recommend the Yachtsman.

I loved my filet, the lobster bisque was super rich and very filling, the best part is the onion pull apart rolls with roasted garlic! Dh was not happy with his rib eye, super duper fatty and came rare instead of med well. He subbed for a filet and said it was just ok. He prefers the filet from Jiko and the NY Strip from Flying Fish

This is one of the best restaurants at Disney. We save it for special occassions since it can be pricey, xmas, bdays. In fact we are eating there next week for my birthday. We have always had wonderful food and impeccable service. They do know how to cook beef and lamb.

We have eaten here two years in a row in October and are looking forward to going this year. Both experiences were excellent-food and service wise. Items ordered include, farmers salad, chilled seafood salad, cheese plate, filet mignon, oak fired ribeye with horseradish mashed, and the N.Y. strip, plus a few desserts.

The Yachtsman is my favorite restaurant on WDW property. Their steak is definitely on par with the famed Morton's chain. The ambience is perfect and you have the boardwalk very close to walk/stroll off the meal. :-)

I agree that YSH is one of the hidden gems at WDW. I've learned to stay away from the ribeye and New York as each time I have had these, they have been too fatty for me. I eat my steak almost raw and without it being cooked, those fat strips were impossible to cut through. The filets have been very good. The service here has always been some of the best at WDW, the place definitely knows how to prepare a very rare steak and their creme brulee is my favorite brulee at the World.

Thanks everyone - I'm feeling much better about this ADR now! All those pictures are making me very hungry!!

One of our favorites, kids and adults alike. Food is delicious, portions are generous, and the service was outstanding.
