Tell me about the Luau at the Polynesian

We are going to be at the world in November and some friends from Gainesville want to drive over and have dinner with us. They don't want to go to any parks, just eat and visit. I am trying to find a place that both of the husbands will enjoy (big meat eaters) that won't break the bank and will be fun. I was thinking about the luau but all suggestions appreciated.

Actually, I would not advise that as one of my favs; it is not what you would think as a traditional luau. While kids like it, adults are not as impressed.

If you plan on spending that much money, and don't want to go to the parks, I would suggest Fulton's Crab House in DTD or Citricos in the GF or the California Grill in CR.

What I have done is have dinner over at GF at Citricos, and then swing over to CR on the monorail to the California Grill, and sit at the bar and have dessert - at the time when you can watch the fireworks at MK.

You will like all equally as much as the other.

I agree with the previous poster. The luau is family fun, not really "visiting with friends" fun. It's loud and there's continuous action, so you really won't get to chat with your friends.

I do agree is it loud and would be hard to talk with friends but my family thinks it is very fun. We go every year and last year we went with SIL and her BF and they really liked it as well. Also whats nice if you do the 5:15 show you could go over to the beach @ the Poly afterwards have a drink and watch the fireworks. Check the schedule for fireworks time.

We also like the Hoop Deedu @ Wilderness Lodge every entertaining and very good chicken and ribs. Strawberry Shortcake is yummy!

The Yacht Club has the Yachtsmen Steakhouse. It's a very nice dinner and you could walk the Boardwalk area and see some of the Illuminations fireworks @ 9pm.
