Tell me about the Haunted Mansion Overlay

My favorite part is the snow scene when you first enter the graveyard. Really beautiful. That and Jack's head being in place of the hanging person in the beginning. I'm not a huge fan of the movie, it's okay. But I really like the ride like that, it's festive.

when I went to disneyland in October it was up, and the last time i had been to DL before that was like 10 years ago (more actually probley like 13) and it was at christmas time aswell... so i don't really remember normal haunted mansion, I don't like hmh nor do i hate it... i'm not really a scary ride (ghosts) kinda girl... but its nice to do atleast once or twice a trip

Like Molly, I personally do not like the overlay at all. But that's just me. It's obviously popular and has its' fans like anything else Disney does. I don't like all of the stuff they drape all over the outside, and I don't like the stuff on the inside - especially that very, very, very creepy man-eating wreath hanging on the chandelier as you pass the solarium coffin scene. I will admit that I do kind of like the stretching room "stained glass" windows or paintings or whatever they're supposed to be - but that's it. I personally prefer the HM as it is the rest of the year.

My DD8 and I love the overlay. We were there right after Xmas one year and we went on it 3 times, my DD loved it that much. She kept saying she was disappointed it wasn't like than when we were there this March, but I have promised to take her for Halloween one year so we can see it again. I think it is really well done.

I seriously dislike the overlay, and would not be upset if they got rid of it entirely and forever. But then I've never seen the movie b/c I don't want to, I don't like the images or animation style I've seen of it.

I dont care for the overlay either. I have seen NBC, my kids like the overlay (although I think they prefer the original HM better). Tim Burton animation style is not my thing either. I have never seen nor want to see James and the Giant Peach or The Corpse Bride. NBC isnt that bad of a movie, it just isnt my style. I do go on the HMH when there, but much prefer just the regular ol' HM.

We went in dec 07 and my 2 yr old daughter loved it.

Now 3 we went in march and may and she is saying when is jack, sally and zero coming back.

We told her they would be back in oct when we go she is so excited to see them again.

She loves the movie and also loves the corpse bride.

I think what sets it apart from everything else is it is differn't anamation they use.

We did not like the overlay. In fact this year, we had to time our trip to make sure that it did not coincide with the overlay because my dd was so disappointed by it and it scared the you know what for my ds.

I don't know why they can't do something more in keeping with the theme of the hm, like a victorian christmas haunting and try to keep some of the humor that is in the original. I guess that is what I objected to the most with the overlay, it was scarier and it didn't have one lighthearted moment in it. The stretching pics at the beginning weren't funny and there were no grinning ghost hitchhikers at the end.

See, I'm kind of the same way about the movie. Not much of a Tim Burton fan. The images are disturbing to me.

I am so glad I am not the only oddball out there! I have ALWAYS found the movie distrubing...I've never watched it, but everything about it creeps me out...even just the t-shirts, pictures, etc.:confused3

I had actually never thought about them doing this before. I'm a 18 trip WDW vet, but planning my first trip to DL over the new year. I had not even thought about the fact that this will be during the Nightmare Makeover time frame. When do they usually close it to undo the madness and when does it normally reopen?

Great pics, thanks! I was telling DD about it at dinner, and now she wants to rent the movie, and see the HMH when we go in Oct. Well, Tim Burton fan or not, I know I'd want to check it out for myself anyway. It's interesting hearing what everybody thinks about it, though.:thumbsup2

Good luck trying to find the movie to rent. Apparently Blockbuster only has it available during the "holiday" season. As well as Wal-Mart and some of the other retail chains. Ive been trying for over a week to find it so we can watch it before we go...and the only place I can find it is ebay or Amazon.

I did however buy "Corpse Bride" the other nite at Wal-Mart ($9.00).

Didnt make any sense, since Blockbuster and Walmart had a TON of other "holiday" movies. :confused3

We love the overlay, it's very fun.
And ummmm, NBC has nothing to do with a bride murdering her groom....that's in the normal HM but it has nothing to do with HMH. NBC is about Jack Skellington deciding he wants to be Sandy Claws and run Christmas instead of Halloween.....and no, the "hurry back" lady isn't at the end, it's Sally and she says a little Christmas thing. The ride is totally different with the overlay, something everyone should see at least once.

I seriously dislike the overlay, and would not be upset if they got rid of it entirely and forever. But then I've never seen the movie b/c I don't want to, I don't like the images or animation style I've seen of it.

Hubby, however, likes it.

Our first trip as adults HM was closed to put the overlay on. Our second trip I couldn't go on it because our then 2 year old freaked out in the stretching room when all of the adults apparently were scared out of their minds and screamed (they should have "fun"-screamin-FREE stretching room "rides" throughout the day) and DS and I had to take the scarier-than-anything, black-walled, went-on-forever, chicken exit.

When we went back in September, it opened on our last day there, and I finally saw it, and hated it.

In January I went there right after it re-opened, and was at last able to see it "normal" since I was a kid, and I loved it. I'm a HM purist. :)

So I can't tell you you will love it, b/c I am the polar opposite of loving it, and will now avoid it during the overlay!

I'm with you Bumpershoot. I hated the overlay so much that I'm seriously debating on going to DL at a different time of year next time because of it although I love Christmas time in the park.

To me it was just plain silly and cheap looking. :confused3

:rotfl2: I love the NBC HMH overlay, of course..... I DO! If you dont like it AND have not seen the movie, try to see the movie , it may make you have a more kinship feeling towards the characters.
Too bad others have such a disdain for the HMH overlay, it really warms my heart! But, like I have said in other posts about the HMH overlay, it reminds me of my best friend who passed a few years ago. He LOVED Jack Skellington.
So it is especially close to my heart.
And my Dfi and I love love love Halloween, we are in fact getting married:bride: at the Rose Court Garden by the DLH on Halloween of 2009 and we are having an NBC kind of themed wedding! So, this is just right down our alley:yay:
But for those of you that dont like the HMH overlay, we will gladly take your place in line;)
Dont forget to bring your Santa Sack......
