Tell me about the "dark" backwards part on EE

I am trying to get up my nerve to ride EE on our trip the end of this month. I've watched the video that is available online and the only part I'm unsure about is the backwards/dark part. I love BTMRR but I don't do TT or RnRc. I don't like spinning/upside down things or big drops. What actually happens in the "dark" part of EE? Inquiring minds want to know :lmao:

Nothing. No big drops, no spins. It does bank onto the sides just like Big Thunder and coasters like that, but (at least in my experience) with it being so dark you feel like it's about to corkscrew or something. . . just get that feeling that it *should* but it never happens. I think the dark makes your mind thinks you're making bigger moves than you really are.

Well first it goes backwards...and then...it gets dark! ;)

seriously, this roller coaster is not that big a deal. It's really fun. My DH and I went on it twice and really enjoyed it. It's an odd sensation going backwards into the pitch black, but when you can't see anything whooshing by or see a drop, all you feel is the speed really.

I did feel dizzy after this roller coaster, but seriously, it's just a fun ride and really fast. Do it!!! Carpe Diem!!! :thumbsup2

During the dark, backwards part. . . . you go uphill and make a fairly sharp left turn. You don't spin or go upside down. I agree, the dark does play tricks with your mind a little, but it is over quickly. My mom and dad loved it, and they won't do RnR. They love ToT and BTMRR is their FAVORITE. Dad did it twice pretty quickly, and he said he was done after that, but we all enjoyed it very much.

It's dark...and it's backwards...lol

seriously, the first time you ride it seems more intense than after subsequent rides. Picture the outside portion of test track, in the dark and going back wards. It gains speed, then loses it, then gains it again, then goes to a stop, then you proceed forwards for the rest of the ride. The first time my son rode it, he closed his eyes and it gave him the sensation of going upside down. The first time i rode it, my adrenaline was pumping and it seemed pretty intense, and got my stomach. Since that first ride, however, it has not.

It's really not bad at all. This is such a great rollercoaster!

I was worried about this part too, with my vertigo :crazy2:. What about whiplash? Are you safe with a bad back or neck?

i thought it went DOWNHILL in the darks backwards.... so it goes UPHILL??

I was worried about the downhill backwards part, but if it goes uphill, that will put me at much more ease!

Okay so how long do you think you are in the dark?? Does it go fast or faster than BTMR. I will ride BTMR, never rode rock n roll or space mountain, how long do you estimate the whole ride??

Ok, this may sound juvenile but strap a glow stick around your neck or as a bracelet. This helped my DD on dark rides when we went a few years ago as she wasn't in complete darkness. Glow sticks are really cheap @ the Dollar Tree! (Price check on glow sticks - $1.00!) :teeth:

I have a tendency to get dizzy too! So is it uphill or downhill when you go backwards????

I'd love to give some advice, but my eyes were closed the whole ride :rotfl2:

The coaster goes downhill most of the backwards part and comes to a stop on an uphill section. It is powered by gravity so obviously it can only start off if it is going downhill.

I don't do backwards very well and am shaky for awhile after I get off Everest *but I'm going back*!!! ;)
It's a really good ride and is worth a little shaky time. Just don't go on Dinosaur or a safari (or Primeval Whirl) right after Everest, if you are like me.

It does go backwards for a bit, but then you swoop up and to the left. That was a surprise to me and my DDad; for some reason we expected to go RIGHT... but it's not bad. The coolness: if it's sunny out and you're in the front, you can see the superstructure of the mountain! And just before the drop, when the Yeti appears and rips up the track, watch in front of you and you'll see the unique way the track switches. It's super cool!

After reading all the posts, I just don't know if I should ride this ride. I love BTMRR, Splash Mountain and Space Mountain. I liked RnRc and would ride it again. Mostly because I feel safer inside. I am working up the nerve to do ToT this trip but I just can't seem to get the nerve up to ride EE. I don't like huge drops or heights. I don't think going backwards would bother me, it never has before. I know from reading other posts people don't feel too well after going backwards. What would you do if you were me??? How high are the drops?

The drop is 80 feet tall. Yes, IT SOUNDS FREAKY, but keep in mind, the train itself is 60 feet long. So if you sit in the front, the only time you even start to pick up speed is the last 15-20 feet, and it's much milder than Primeval Whirl.

I hate drops and I love EE.

Thanks for the tip! :thumbsup2 That is the part of the ride that has me worried too. I can do dark, I can do backwards, but I have never done both at the same time. I hope I don't chicken out!!!!

Dropping backwards in the dark was my fear, too. But once on it, I didn't feel any sensation of a downhill drop. Do you know those bobsled rides at the fair - the kind that goes around fast and then stops to go backward? That's all it feels like. It's just a bunch of twists and turns. I don't like big drops but I hardly felt it. The big drop does NOT give you the same funny feeling in the pit of your stomach like Splash Mountain does.

It's very scary. It took my away my breath. :scared1:

Okay, here we go again. :confused3 NOW the talk is that the backwards part is DOWNHILL. When did this come about? I've ALWAYS understood that the backwards part is basically un UPHILL corkscrew, then after you stop you go forward for the drop. I have never seen so many conflicting reports. I'm trying so hard to WANT to ride this, but I have no idea what to believe. I'm sure I'll ride it anyway, but it would be nice to know a little of what to expect... :goodvibes
