Tell me about the cabins...

We are a family of 6 - the cabins have been recommended - it's either that or a suite/villa which is a minimum of $2000.00 more. We've only done the Moderate Resorts which we've loved - but with an newer addition this year our family is too large. We are not an outdoorsey (is that a word?) family and have never camped or anything like that. The pics we've looked at don't look rustic - but the pool looks just like a plain pool for the campground. Are there themed pools by the cabins? Are the cabins just like the resort rooms only with a living/kitchen area? The price obviously makes us think "yes let's do it" but when we think cabins we think - you know - the old smelly, holes in the wall, mice and bug type from youth camps. We'll be there for 5-6 days so we want something comfy - we generally leave for the parks around 9-10 in morning and come back late afternoon for swim, nap for youngers and then back to Epcot for evenings or downtown.

the cabins are definately not smelly old cabins with mouse holes!! We love them!!!! We have a family of five that fits well. The fridge and stove are a definate plus. They have a fair amount of room and are very clean. BUT if you are looking for a nice themed pool you are out of luck. Just a regular ol swimming pool.

Try this website. There are pictures of the cabins. I don't think you will be disapppointed. They are very relaxing after a day at the parks and quiet. You don't have anyone running around the hallways like at a hotel. We really enjoyed them.

We stayed there Dec 04 and ABSOLUTELY loved it. We are NOT outdoorsy/camping folks either (at all....) and LOVED the campground and cabins. I couldn't believe the deal we got -- after I found out the price I worried it would be a hole-in-the-wall kinda place too. My DH convinced me to go through with our reservation and we never regretted it.

The setting is unbelievably serene and quiet.

There is a double bed plus bunk beds in the bedroom and a couch and Murphy bed in the living room. The kitchen was nice to have -- for the frig and microwave for us -- we didn't cook meals there (it is vacation after all!!)

Fort Wilderness had plenty of do such that we spent a day there (instead of going to Universal) for a much needed break-from-park-day.

We are discussing a WDW trip in '07 and our kids (9 and 6) have requested returning to the cabins.

I don't know the ages of your group -- many people have commented that it can be a tight squeeze for 6 -- but it's doable.
I wouldn't hesitate ESPECIALLY if it's a $2,000 savings!

We just stayed in the cabins for the first time over Chrsitmas and also LOVED them! It was sooo nice having your own private space with not having to worry about the kids making to much noise or having to listen to others all night They are super clean and have a nice large bathroom, kitchen area, ect.. It was nice having the full size fridge for pop, ect., we were on the dining plan or the kitchen would have been great also! The campground is super nice and there are soo many things to do, especially for kids. The pictures do not do them justice either. We will for sure be staying there again next this Chrsitmas!

We LOVE the cabins. It is so nice to get away from the craziness of the parks. So nice and quiet with nice space. I wouldn't stay anywhere else. It was a nice little oasis for us!

We stayed last year in a cabin (#2701) & absolutely ADORED it! It was so comfy! Not at all "rustic" - but very clean & nicely decorated. The kitchen was a very nice perk as was the deck w/ grill outside. (The kitchen was also very well stocked w/ plates, cups, silverware, etc.) We had daily maid service (she even ran the dishwasher daily), & she left towel animals & arranged the kids' stuffed animals each day.

Our cabin was the 1st in the loop so it was an EASY walk to the bus stop & not far at all from one of the 2 pools.

It was so nice not having to worry about our kids bothering others by being too loud (as I worry in a regular hotel room) & also not having to worry about others being too loud around us. Very quiet & very peaceful. At the end of the day, you really felt like you were returning "home" instead of to a hotel.

The kids went to bed in their room, and DH & I were able to stay up in the other room watching TV which was also nice.

The bathroom was lovely. We always had plenty of towels & Mickey soaps & shampoo.

The decor was "cabin" w/ a painting of Mickey Mouse, Goofy, & Donald on the wall outside of the bathroom & a painting of Bambi & Thumper on the wall in the bedroom.

The bedroom was a little "dark" but that would be my only complaint.

If you're driving, you get to park right by your cabin - easy loading & unloading.

The boat ride to the MK is marvelous. And you get to watch Wishes & the Electrical Water Parade from the beach at FW.

The nightly campfire & movie was fun too!

2 thumbs way up for a FW cabin!!

This year, our kids have already asked if we're staying in the "little cottage" again... However, we can stay in WL for about $200.00 less & CBR for about $800.00 less, so we haven't yet made up our minds... But, I would definitely stay in a cabin again!

The only thing that got old were the internal buses. In the other resorts, you wait for a bus or boat or monorail & that's it. At FW, you have to take 2 transports to get anywhere (unless you have a car) -

To MK, CR, or WL - internal bus to boat dock, boat to MK, CR, or WL

To Epcot - 1. internal bus to outpost, bus to Epcot OR
2. internal bus to boat dock, boat to CR, monorail to TTC, monorail to Epcot

To MGM - internal bus to outpost, bus to MGM

To AK - internal bus to outpost, bus to AK

It wasn't horrible, but, one morning, we were trying so hard to make it to MK by the opening. And we had to wait for what seemed like forever for the internal bus. And the internal bus doesn't drop you right at the boat dock. You have to walk to the boat dock - which isn't bad in the morning (unless you're running for the boat that is docking), but, at night, after walking all day in the park, it can be tiring.

We stayed in the cabins last week and have to agree with everyone else here who said they were wonderful. I too was a little nervous about them being musty and damp, but they were much nicer than I expected, and spotlessly clean. It was so much better having the extra room for the kids so we didn't have to turn out the lights at 8PM, and while we didn't do any cooking there, it was still nice to have the kitchen if for nothing else but to keep cold drinks and snacks.

We are DVC members, but plan on returning next year to the cabins for a few nights before moving over to the Wilderness Lodge. Try them, I don't think you'll be disappointed!
