Tell me about the Boardwalk area.

We arrive Saturday 12/04/2004 in the mid afternoon at the Wilderness Lodge. I don't want to burn up a day on our Park Hoppers, so I thought we would grab a snack or a late lunch then maybe head over to the Boardwalk area around 5 o'clock or so. I've never been to that area, what's fun to do?? We will probably have dinner somewhere and just check things out.

Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks!!

A little bit later in the evening there are a variety of street performers....juggling, piano player, rope twirling cow girl, etc., the carnival games start up. It is fun ..we stay at the boardwalk and my kids love going down and visiting each time. There are also surrey bikes to rent.

It's nice to walk around the lake too, over by the Beach and Yacht Club and over the bridges. There isn't much shopping, but good eats, and the atmosphere is carnival-ish. When we're there in January, it's pretty dead, but a lovely area to relax and enjoy. Folks seem to really enjoy the surrey bikes! Watch out for the gulls in front of the eateries...they even have signs out warning about them!

The boardwalk come alive aroud 7 or 7.30. Just a really neat place to be. Sometimes they will have some activities on the boardwalk, besides the regular stuff. When we were there in June they had dancing on the lawn in front of the BWhotel, kisoks set up all over the place with games, but this is not the regular stuff. We love the Boardwalk area also a nice place to people watch.

The ages of folks in your party may determine how much you'll be able to get out of the BW. One thing you should consider, is that when webmomom says the BW "comes alive at 7-7:30", I would tell you is that it can be a little bit dead prior to that time. Some of the carnival games may be open before that and, of course, ESPNZone has a pretty nice arcade, but you are probably not going to find it "hopping" at 5pm.

I'm not sure when the boat rentals close, but you could head over to BC and rent some "mouse boats", which are small motor boats. You can drive all the way over to MGM and back. Another option is Fantasia mini-golf, which is a short walk from the Boardwalk. They have a traditional mini-golf courses as well as a "pitch-and-putt" style course that is a little more challenging. Anyway, these might be things to kill the time if you want to make a night of it at BW but will be arriving there earlier.

Just got back and the group of us went to the boardwalk one evening just after dinner (maybe 7:00pm) and we were a bit disappointed with the Boardwalk. We did get to see and hear the bicycle piano player and watch people. We even watched the boats come and go between 'Epcot and the resorts. But as it was stated earlier in this thread: there was not much shopping, worse, there was nobody pin trading (which was the biggest disappointment to me).
It was nice to go over and absorb the ambiance but there is nothing there that appeals to me enough to ever go over again. As for the restaurants: sure they are nice: but it is the Disney experience I go for, and to me the Boardwalk did not embody the Disney experience.
