Tell me about the Atlantis day trip...is it worth it?

my husband doesn't want to book the hotel to save on excursions. Totally sad that we will pay crazy prices for his peace of mind.

We did the Discover Atlantis tour and really enjoyed it. What a beautiful resort they have there.

I did the aquaventure last week while on the Dream. It's a beautiful resort, the beach was nice, the not so lazy river was fun, but it was soooo crowded. The timing was bad I'm sure since it was spring break. There were a total of four ships in port, plus the resort was at 94% occupancy. My family of four only did the lazy river once, no other slides. We couldn't find tubes, or didn't want to fight for them. And the lines for the other slides were too long. We were even the first Disney bus to arrive, so we beat many of the crowds. Luckily, we rented a cabana for the day, so we avoided the huge food and drink lines and had all of that brought to us and didn't have to try to find loungers and shade. I'm sure it's much more enjoyable in the off season. I'm glad we went, now we can cross it off our list.

I just did this on 4/10 off the wonder. Got the room at comfort suites . Wonder got in at 7. Off the ship at 815 and then taxi and checked in comfort suites at 845 and were at Atlantis for pool open at 9. Lines after 11 were about 30 minutes but slides were fun, lazy river rapids were great...just keep your but up!!!!

Don't pay the $177 per person on disney to do it

We did discover Atlantis, and were very disappointed. We had to drag our son, 5, around for what felt like forever to find a place that had food for our included lunch, and then were on a crowded patio with seagulls EVERYWHERE. The tour didn't happen, it was more like "follow me, here's the beach". I wouldn't recommend it. The aquarium was cool, but not worth the money, and we felt like we were treated like cattle.

Just curious if you paid for lunch separately or were you on the Aqua Adventure package with lunch included? If so, did you just give your included meal vouchers to your Cabana attendant and order off of the Cabana menu?

We were with the dcl Aqua adventure and had the vouchers. We just gave them to our cabana attendant when we placed our orders. I had heard/read on these boards that they run out of many of the food selections; we didn't run into any of that. We didn't order our food until after noon and there was no problem getting any of the items we requested off the voucher menu.

Atlantis has a wonderful kids swim area. Water is ankle deep to about 2 feet deep and there's a water play area (slides and things to climb on) I've taken the grandkids there and we spent all day If you have children who don't swim, toddlers or even babies this is a great place. There are lifeguards there and they enforce the rules. Every time I've gone it hasn't been crowded. There is food and restrooms right there.

I would consider booking a room at Comfort Suites if you want to spend the day at Atlantis without spending a huge amount. We did this last year and saved $$ over DCL's excursion prices. We arrived well before the DCL group and had plenty of time for the pools, slides, aquarium, beaches, etc.

Could you tell me more about this? Did you take a taxi to the hotel? Do you book for the day of? Because most hotels don't allow entry until 3pm or whatever. Do they give you wristbands or what? This is to get into the waterpark isn't it? PLEASE HELP!!

Hi, yes we took a taxi to the hotel which is directly across the street from Atlantis. We had booked online at the Comfort Suites a few months in advance. When we got to the hotel we told them that we wanted to check in and out because we would not be using the room at all. They know all about this process. They will give you a paper I think and direct you to where you need to go in Atlantis. Once there, you are given wristbands that gives you access to the water park, pools, beach, etc. I wrote all about it in my Magic TR that is in my signature below. Also Lisalisa wrote about it in the "Suite Life" which is a TR that is floating around here somewhere.

We booked the excursion where you just tour the aquarium and hang out on the beach. Should be a great day. Our kids aren't too into water slides, so we're just doing the basic package when we cruise on the Dream in a couple of weeks.
DH and I have been to Atlantis years ago and thought it was great & worth seeing. I think our kids will be mesmerized by it as well.
