Tell me about Teppinyaki

I have never ate at Teppinyaki before and was thinking about giving it a try this time. I thought I had read somewhere that it is kind of like a Benihana's where they cook your food at your table. Can anyone verify this or did I just dream it up?

Also, any thoughts on the food - good, bad, so-so?

I was really surprised at the price difference betwen lunch and dinner. Are the dinner portions that much larger than the lunch portions?

Any help appreciated.

Yes, it is just like Benihana's...dinner and a "show!"

The food is fine, we just ate there in August.

I've never had lunch there but I think in general the discrepancy between WDW lunch and dinner prices has nothing to do with portion size, it's just dinner prices are higher than lunch prices!

Have fun!

We went in 2001 and we probably won't go back soon. The food was okay...nothing special. Our chef just cooked our food...nothing entertaining there. We found it overpriced for dinner. I haven't looked at the lunch prices. There are too many better places to eat in world showcase. I'm glad we tried it, but we won't be returning for a while...at least not for dinner.

I have to agree the food was mediocre at best and it felt really crowded. It seemed like the grills were packed in. We won't be going back either.

I've always had a really fabulous time there--everytime we go to Disney, stopping there is a must-do. I've found the atmosphere to be friendly, the food to be great and the service is wonderful. The chefs seem to really go out of their way for children, also.

Yup, this was our experience last year too and we plan to go again next time! :teeth:

We love this one- yes it is crowded but that is part of the fun. We have also gone for lunch and found it to be just as filling(I don't recall it being much smaller)and it was much less crowded.

We planned to go here in March but had to cancel our trip. While planning for that, I read many great reviews of this restaurant. Most of what I've read has been positive...sorry I can't give first hand experience. We're going in June though!

Teppanyaki was one of the most disappointing restaurants we've been do at Disney - actually, one of the most anywhere. If you've been to Benihana already, you don't need to do Teppanyaki. It's overpriced, unexciting, and bland.

Also, if you're looking at the lunch prices on allearsnet, they're very out of date. The lunch prices are nearly the same as the dinner prices now.

dh and i would both love to try this restaurant... i know dd would like it too... but ds... he's very picky, there is NO WAY he'd eat any of what i read either adult or child menu... any chance they'd find him some pizza or mac/cheese or chicken fingers? even a hot dog would work! LOL!

maybe dh and i will go here while the kids are at kids' club...

It's a "teppan" steak house.

Benihana is the same thing!

Well, although there have been good and bad reviews, I was all ready to make my PS. I thought I'd review my DDE list of restaurants first and Teppinyaki is not on the list. I was really looking forward to 20% off of those prices. Now I'm not sure if I'll eat there or not. I had planned on having dinner, but I would probably have to eat lunch at those prices. We don't usually like a big lunch though because it makes me so sleepy. Sure do wish it was available restaurant on the DDE.

eeyoreforever, if you still want to try it for lunch, I believe that they do offer a 10% discount for AP holders, if that helps.

For us, Teppanyaki is always a "must do". We've always been fortunate and had great chefs, and on our last trip, the chef went out of his way to entertain the kids. We've always found the food to be very good, especially the salad (I *love* the ginger dressing).

I liked the lunch also because as we go in July a big lunch is out- too filing and I would lose it as soon as we went out into the heat. This meal is "lighter" in my opinion. You are full when you leave but not heavy full. My kids did fine here- having just chicken on the grill with white rice. It is not the same show atmosphere of benihana-much more subdued.
