I am getting close to my 7 month booking window and I am thinking about trying AKV, if its available. I am looking at either two studios or a two BR.

1. What do you think my chance is for early/mid June?

2. Is a standard view a real disappointment? I have never stayed at AK before and I don't think I care that much about a savanah view, but everyone seems to be crazy for it. I am also pretty low on points, so I would like to save the xtra points.

Any opinions or a related thread link. Thanks!

I own at SSR and have only stayed there and VB.

My sense is that majority who are purchasing at AKV are doing so to get savanna view and it is the best (there is just something to getting up early in the morning, grabbing a cup of coffee, and going out on your porch to sit down and watch a giraffe that is nearby). However, standard view is OK and there are designated viewing areas around the buildings from which to see animals. Standard view at the Jambo building overlooks the pool; at Kidani, the road, pool or garden areas in front of the building. Don't know chances for June.

I just returned from a 6-night stay in a savanna view studio. We were on Zebra Trail overlooking the Uzima savanna. I was not overly impressed with the savanna view. It was nice to see the animals when they were right outside. We watched the giraffes being fed (5 at one time eating from one tree!) and a few eland and ankole cattle made their way over on occasion. Overall, there was much more animal activity on the Arusha and Sunset savannas. I also did not like walking past all of the standard (pool) view rooms to get to the bus, lobby, elevators and laundry room. It took almost 3 minutes to walk down the hall to the laundry room...and we weren't even at the end of the hall! There were so many vacant spaces to sit and watch the animals. We went out on our balcony, watched a few birds and maybe an eland, and then we went to the other viewing areas to watch more activity. Personally, if I ever stay at Jambo again (and I will!), I am going to do standard view. I was planning on taking my parents with us for spring break 2010 and staying savanna view at Kidani. Now, I am planning on a standard 2BR at Jambo. The third bathroom at Kidani would be nice, but our 2 DD's are only going to be 6 and 4 so they really don't need their own bathroom yet. I loved Mara and Boma so that is another big plus for Jambo. In addition, the standard rooms at Jambo are all in the front area of the resort so the walk to all of them is much shorter than most of the savanna view rooms.

Oh, and I chose AKV because I knew my DD's would love the animals. The savanna view backfired on me! They were more interested in watching for animals than eating, getting dressed, going to bed, etc. :lmao: I think I will have better luck getting them up and out of the room in the morning if they know that they have to actually leave to see the animals.

That IS funny! I never thought about that as a reason to stay standard. I already have one extremely slow child. I can't imagine an animal distraction on top of that! :rotfl:

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I am glad to know there are a lot of viewing areas. I think I will try for standard view to save the points.
