I have a chance to stay in a 1BR at SSR. I've never stayed there before and I'm a little hesitant. I have two kids (5 and 2). How do you like the theming? Does it have that "Disney" feel? How about the transportation? Pools? Rooms? I really need some convincing and I'm sure that there are plenty of SSR fans out there. Please help. Thanks.

Theming is all a matter of opinion, but we love it. some don't.

The two main pools cater very well to small children. The main pool has a zero entry area, perfect for very young children. I think it is the only DVC pool It also has a small (6') slide also for very small children. There is also small interactive water area.

The Grand Stand pool is not as small children friendly. But the GS pool has a large interactive water play area.

If by "theming" and "Disney feel" you mean having Minnie and Mickey popping out at you everywhere you turn SSR doesn't have that at all. I really don't think that is the case at any of the DVC resorts. You might see a subtle reminder that you are at Disney but that's about it.

That said, SSR is a beautiful, peaceful resort that is great for walking and relaxing. The main pool is zero entry and the little ones love it. The neighborhood pools are usually very quiet except for maybe an hour or so in the late afternoon when everyone starts coming back in from the parks. We love its proximity to Downtown Disney. We usually end the night there having dinner or an ice cream at Ghiradelli and a long walk to burn it off.;)

I have always had great luck with the buses. I think with all the Disney resorts a lot depends on whether or not you are there during a peak vacation time or not. After staying at many resorts over the years, I can honestly say that SSR is probably better than most.

My advice to you would be to request the Grandstand area. There is a great water play area at that pool that your little ones will love and it is a very short walk to the main pool and the Carriage House where the eating areas and shops are located. I also think you will be quite content with the room. The decorating style might not be yours, but it should be in good condition.

We stayed at SSR this last trip with our children, then 3, 7 and 9 yrs. I also had some of the same concerns about staying there, having had a really wonderful stay at the VWL which really felt very Disney. Turned out, we loved the resort and although the theming is subtle, it did not feel "un-disneylike". My kids also loved the pool area, moreso than the WL pool. My only complaint about the resort was that the bus service, but others seemed to have good luck with the buses, especially those that did not stay at the Springs (like we did) which was the last bus stop.

I wouldn't be worried about staying there ... you're on vacation in WDW and will love it. But if you are having any concerns, consider splitting your stay.

Thanks for the info. Since I was a little concerned about the theming, I added a couple of more nights at the GF. I agree that SSR sounds great and either way I'm on vacation and in Disney so how bad can it be.

A couple of photos I took when we stayed in a studio at SSR.
