Tell me about Soarin

We're headed for our annual holiday trip to WDW in November. Our last trip was Dec 04 and Soarin was almost finished. I was hoping you could give me some details, like...how long does it last? how high up to the seats go (I don't do heights)? can anyone do this? my bil suffers with severe motion sickness and we wanted to make sure this wouldn't make him sick for the rest of the day! TIA!!

You will love Soarin! My husband gets motion sickness (no teacups, Mission Space and even Star Tours is iffy) but does fine on this ride. You are elevated up but you are so glued to the screen you won't notice. I don't like heights but you are in a darkened like theater so you won't notice. We have ridden this many, many times at Disneyland and did it once at Epcot last month and it is one of our favorite rides. In all the postings on this ride I have never seen one that was negative. I would think the ride lasts around 5 minutes. One note it's very cold because you are flying (they kind of have a wind effect) so if you have a sweater put it on before you get on. I think there is maybe a 40" or 44" height restriction but anybody else can ride. My fil has all kinds of health problems and rides no problems. If you were in a wheelchair or ECV you would have to get out of that however. Enjoy!

i've only done soarin at california adventure but look forward to visiting it at wdw this fall. ever since i had my kids i get motion sick from most rides (the imax and virtual rides even get to me) but i had no problem with soarin. i think it helped that i could look down and although it was dark i could still make out the floor and the edges of the screen. i love this ride, and can tell you from living in and hot air ballooning over wine country that the portion over the vineyards is very authentic. my favorite part though is the orange groves and the smell.

We did Soarin in Disneyland, CA in May and we're looking forward to doing it again @ WDW (the REAL Disneyworld) in Florida in July. It lasts less than 5 minutes, at least it seems that way. Maybe it's a little longer but it seems to go by fast because it's so incredible. I tend to get motion sickness, can't even ride in the back seat of a car, but this didn't bother me at all. I can't determine exactly how high the seats go up - sorry. If you're afraid of heights, it might freak you out a little at first, but you'll get use to it. It's a not-to-be-missed attraction. I say it might freak you out at first NOT because the seats go up real high, but because it's so realistic. You feel like you're actually flying. To the point where you think your toes might hit the tops of the trees. But, if you look hard...you can see the lines of the screen and you'll remind yourself that you're not actually in the air. It's absolutely amazing!

If you're super afraid of heights, ask to sit in the third car, it doesn't go as high as the first row. The rows line up, row 1 the highest, with 2 below them and 3 below them.

My husband gets sick on most motion simulator rides, but had no problem with Soarin'. We did it 8 times on our last trip. It is an amazing ride.

I loved this ride and I have motion sickness. I cannot do ferris wheels either, however, on this ride you don't even notice how high you are. I will say this, at first when you take off you get just a wee bit of the butterflies and when your first viewing the scenes it can give you the whoop-dee-doo's , but if you close your eyes you feel nothing. So all you have to know if the film makes you nauseous all you have to do is close your eyes and it all goes away, I do not recommend closing your eyes however because the scenery is quite marvelous as are the scents that go along with the film, you won't want to miss it. I sat in the bottom row first time around the top row the 2nd time and found that it made no difference. You just cannot tell how high off the ground you are. All you see is the screen in front of you. The ride probably lasts about 4 or 5 minutes which is not long enough. Do not be afraid to ride this at all ! It's a "not-to-miss" attraction! I can almost guarantee you that you will want to ride this many times over. Have fun!

My husband gets motion sickness, vertigo, pretty much all the things they warn you about. So naturally I dragged him on Soarin' with our DS4. We were on row 1, which does go the highest (was a bit distracting because you could see the top of the screen, kind of ruined the effect a little, try another row if you can) Happy to report that my DH was fine, he loved it, we all did. I think he makes this stuff up sometimes!! No seriously, he doesn't get it too bad, but he finds Star Tours pretty bad, he can manage it once, and that's it. I thinks it's an optical problem, he loves regular roller coasters.

By the way it was super busy when we were there (May 22nd), wait times of about an hour and more, so getting fast passes is a very good idea. Or get on it early in the morning, and get a fast pass for later. It really is a cool attraction. I so wanted to dip my feet in the ocean as you went zipping past.

You shouldn't have any problem riding - there's no turbulance on the ride - it's really exhilarating!!
