Here's the sitch...I'm prone to vertigo every now and then (Meniere's disease). Did fine last summer on ToT, BTMRR, SM, SM (Space...this is a once a trip only ride for me) and Test Track. I do not like the movie in Canada and would NEVER consider going on Mission Space or the Teacups. I have ridden on REAL chairlifts though...all the time in the Rocky Mountains. So, will I be able to handle Soarin'? TIA! :)

If the O Canada! movie got to you, then you might want to consider passing on Soarin' as it is very much like the O Canada! movie, only more movement...the "ski lift"-like seats also move in relation to the image on the screen.

Your call, as only you know what kicks off a spate of vertigo. It's a shame, though, 'cuz the ride is pretty cool! :goodvibes

I did not like Soarin'. I am afraid of heights, however since I know a ride will not kill me I have to try everything once :rotfl: It is a gentle ride...but you do get the sensation of height and it freaked me out. BAsically you area in a seat and you go up to the screen which shows an IMAX type movie and you have the feeling of a gliding movement and wind and you fel like you are going into the movie...which is exactly the effect. I did not feel right after it, so if I were you i would not risk it.

I did not like the beginning of going thru the clouds...it reminded me of death or the perception of death and the flight your soul takes as it leaves your body. Call me crazy, but that was my first thought. I just don't like the whole big screen thing...it makes me dizzy for some reason

I would never ride it again and you are not missing a thing, so don't feel bad.

I am not really keen on heights and thought that I wouldn't like Soarin'. Rode it 4 times. Loved it. It was so beautiful. :goodvibes :goodvibes

If you do ski lifts, you should be okay. That is what it felt like. But there are a few moments where you have the feeling of losing control. :flower:

I loved it. :goodvibes

I don't know much about vertigo, but as I have gotten older I'm less able to handle the really extreme thrill rides without nausia. Especially simulator rides for some reason.

That being said, Soarin was a piece of cake. The ride is very gentle and the scenery is beautiful. After the first or second scence you are over any anxiety you may have had because it feels so safe.

Like the other posters have said, you are on a big, safe bench seat on a moving rack that is programed to move in conjuction with the IMAX footage. We did it three times this past Saturday and really enjoyed it. If heights concern you, you can request to be put on row three. I bet you are probably only about 15 feet off the ground on row three.

I hate simulator rides (oh why do my kids love Star Tours so much), refuse to go on ToT and finally did SM after 20 years of going to the MK.

Soarin' is great. No queasiness at all. I hate heights. I am a chicken. And I did Soarin' four times in September.

I have to disagree with goofie4goofy. I feel you would be missing out on something if you miss this ride. My sister-in-law who is scared to ride everything loved it and wanted to ride it again. But I will say that O Canada upset my stomach some where Soarin didn't bother me at all.

Real chairlifts, like, where you can be killed if it fails? I think you will be fine on Soarin'. I no longer do Star Tours, I never could do Teacups, and even merry-go-rounds make me dizzy - but Soarin' is just the greatest! We're AP holders in southern California, so are at DL and CA frequently. Still, we have to do Soarin' every visit. It is one of the best rides yet. The only fault with it is that it's too short! [I realize this is a ride meant to shovel people through, not entertain them for 15 minutes, but I wish it was.]

It is the kindest of simulators and the wind and scents that match the scene you're soarin' through make it more refreshing. It also helps that you can chat with those on your 'bench' before and after the ride. Kids especially like it - even us older ones.

Enjoy!

I can't handle the teacups anymore and won't even try Mission Space. I loved Soarin' and we ran around three more times and rode it again. You can always close your eyes if needed but I didn't have to even once. My girlfriend threw up in her hat on MS but also loved Soarin'. The seat moves so gently that you barely even realize it is moving. We are going next week and I can't wait to take my 4 and 6 year old grandkids on it.

We went to Disneyland in Nov of 03 and my mom went with us. She is deathly afraid of heights... She loved Soarin'. In fact we were waiting for our fastpass time so she waited for us while we rode another ride.. when we met up with her she had gone into the single ride line and ridden before our fastpass time.. she absolutely loved it!!

We are going to WDW 10-22 to 10-27 and we are going to make sure to ride it again!!

Love it!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

did she really throw up in her hat???? That is way too funny!

I guess everyone is different. I can ride MS without a problem...but soarin bothered me.

This is a tricky question because everyone is so different. I have fibromyalgia and with it some vertigo also. I will not go on any thrill rides, spinning things, etc, but I absoultely LOVE Soarin'. It didn't bother me at all, in fact I went on it 8 times during our last vacation. That being said I kinda talked a lady into going on it. She was scared of being dizzy and uncomfortable. I waited for her to come off the ride to ask her how she liked it. I felt really bad when she told me she hated it, it made her feel sick (her daughter loved it though). Really there is no way of knowing how you will react. Most people who know me would think that I would hate the ride, but it was ok for me. Try it with someone who really knows you sitting beside you for support. Close your eyes if things get too bad. It really is a very gentle ride.

m4travel...yep, I ride the chair lifts where you can fall to your death...but you won't be nauseous on the way down! :rotfl:

So, if I were to get dizzy, I could just close my eyes? The movement won't bother me? Thanks everyone for your comments! :)
