I love staying on-site but with no codes in site and my family turning from 4 people to 5 people I think we may be looking into offsite.

Tell me everything you know about Sky Auction- I hear some of you have had great luck there.

Also anyone have a bad Sky Auction experience? I would like to hear about that too.

TIA

Some people have done great on Sky Auction. You just have to be careful and read the description for additional charges. What appears to be a great deal may not be such a bargain once you start adding in the additional charges that are listed.

Go over to the Orlando hotels board there are several threads about auctions and which hotels are nice. I am thinking our next trip might be in a condo, they seem like a nicer option, than just 2 rooms, for a bigger family. Many have a full kitchen and a washer/dryer. For a once in a lifetime trip I would say on-site but we go every year or so and I think it might be a nice alternitive. :teeth: We are pretty go at making our own "magic!" :earsboy: :earsgirl:

We have gotten two cruises, a hotel stay and a Orlando vacation package through Skyauction. Good deals, yes... but it is critical to read everything and do the math before you bid.

It is also a good idea to go to the winners section and see what auctions (similar to the one you want) are going for. They tend to cycle throught the same auctions more than once.

The " Ready, set, go " auctions are the best deal. The only charges above the auction price(around $50) are a $195 fee and $15 paper fee. We won CPGV for $261 /week for a 2 bedroom. Last year we tried both Silver Lake and OLCC- both great.

Susan- do you mind if I ask if airfare is included in the cruise auctions.

I bought 8 tickets for a 5 day cruise for $275 each. I bought this off the site where you don't have to bid but just pay the price they asked. It went well but you get no service. We did have a question on our rooms and they did answer that though.

I would do it again. If you are bidding it is so important you read everything though so you know all of the cost involved. Some people are paying more for the auction than you can just buy the cruise for.

any timeshares from RCI will be $195 (exchange fee) + $15 (their fee).

not just the ready, get set, go.

sorry I just don't like the ready, set, go auctions.

www.skyauction.com
click on usa/canada
click on florida
click on hotels only

then look around - most will be hotels - the timeshares will be for 7 days only (your best deal) - the hotels are $32 per NIGHT extra charge.

Silver Lake has been on skyauction alot - nice place (not great) plus about as close to WDW as you can get - up the road it back entrance is on - the same road as is WDW (ak area).

if you find a timeshare that you like - ask about it on Orlando. I don't always post on this board.

We have used Skyauction extensively. It is great and offers significant savings as long as you do your homework and don' get "auction fever."

It is best for land packages or land/air packages. For instance, we booked a condo/air package for four at the Sheraton Vistana (Lake Buena Vista) in a 2BR last May for $748, including all fees. Booked separately, this would have run $500-$600 in airfare alone (from Indy). We also have gotten incredible deals to Aruba at LaCabana.

If you are going to use Skyauction to book a condo, it is worthwhile to go to tug2.net and join this timeshare users' review site. There are a lot of good reviews and advice. That way, you can get a good handle on the value. Also, Skyauction also offers the same packages repeatedly, so watch and see the range that they go for.

Finally, do NOT buy a cruise on Skyauction. For some reason, people pay too much for these. You can always do better on cruisecompete.com or through an internet agent.

I have bought 2 cruises on Skyauction and you can get good deals. You have to know exactly what the best price is i.e. do your research and not get emotional. I have seen people pay way more than the cruise is worth. However we saved over $100 per person on each of our cruises so it was worth it. I think it is also easier to book last minute deals on cruises- because by then the prices have evened out. Buying way in advance is much riskier because cruise prisces- even on internet sites do drop just prior to sailing. You also need to be a very experienced cruiser because there is no service from the site.
