Hi guys, I just made the AR's for an unexpected trip we will going on in Feb. I wanted to try a few new restaurants this trip and booked us at Rose and Crown for dinner mainly because I have heard people on the boards talk about the fireworks view. I was hoping someone could offer a little info on the food. I have never had any english or rather british cuisine and I am just wondering if I made a good choice. Let me know!
Thanks,
Kim

PS: We are also at Ohana(breakfast) Trails End (lunch) and Whispering Canyon (dinner) for the first time. Any thoughts or comments on these would be great too.

Unfortunately, you cannot be guarenteed a table outside for the fireworks. The food is OK ... but it is English. It's fairly bland fare, IMO. I like the Fish and Chips myself.

I was kind of thinking the same thing myself about the food and I know about the no guarantee of outdoor seating but wishfull thinking I was hoping that during the second week of Feb it wouldn't be too terribly crowded... It may even be cold. I was kind of thinking that the food would be sort of bland. Maybe my dh and I will just split something and we'll get a big dessert.
Thanks
Kim

Don't let the 'English food' sterotype stop you from eating there. The food is very good. But much of it is 'comfort food', which to some may be bland. I personally found the dishes very tasty and the atmosphere superb. I rate it as one of the best in Epcot.

About one-third of the tables have a great view of Illuminations, so figure you have a 33% chance. We love that experience, and have always been willing to wait long for a chance at it. I think our success rate is now 2 out of 8 or something like that.

I love the pie sampler and the beer sampler. I think the chicken and leek pie to be superb. :flower:

I think they have taken the prime rib off the menu and the smoked salmon appetizers. Both of which we loved.

We're also about 2-8 for getting an outside table. The first time we tried it was such a disaster! The service was terrible and then we were shuffled to the side, under a tree, behind a 6 foot gentleman with the smoke and ashes blowing on us. one of the worst experiences.

Almost everyone asks for an outside table and they won't let you wait for one. Still we love the food and the atmosphere. :flower:

We love the Rose and Crown. We think the food is good. Check the menu at allears to see if you like what you see.
If you don't get an outside table, they have an area to stand and watch Illuminations. They will let you leave your table and go watch and come back and finish eating. Our waitress told us what time to go out and even took us to the spot.

Ginger

Thanks for all the replies. Hopefully we will get to sit outside, if not then at least we will be able to walk outside and enjoy the show that way. I am thinking that it will be a good possibility because when I booked, there was plenty of open availability. Of course there could be a lot more people booked by now. We will wait and see. As far as the food, I have checked the menu at allears, it looked like it had a few good choices. It doesn't really matter to me because we will find something we like, order it, if it totally stinks then I guess we will just order dessert!
Thanks guys,
Kim

As far as I know, Rose & Crown is almost always 100% filled for late dinner, regardless of the ADR status the day before.

We enjoy the Rose and Crown and make it part of every trip. The food is good not outstanding. The service is warm and friendly and the atmosphere is great.
We must be lucky, we are 3 of 6 times sitting outside for Illuminations.
Good Luck, I think you will enjoy it.

I took my children to the Rose & Crown for lunch last time we were at Disney. I didn't expect much because I had been to England and the food there is not all that good. My daughter ordered a PB&J, which was huge and came with grapes. I ordered something basic, like a Ploughman's Platter, which came with cheese, bread, grapes, and I can't remember what else. I planned to split it with my 2 year old. I didn't expect so much fruit with the meal, so I ordered a fruit platter too, so he would have something familiar to eat. The fruit platter came with--you guessed it--grapes.

We had so many grapes left over that the waitress gave us some of those nice plastic Epcot kids cups with lids. We took the grapes with us and when the kids got hungry, they had a nice healthy snack. It turned out to be one of the most memorable meals we had.
