We just got back from Wilderness Lodge and the boat would always pick us up and go past the old River Country site. We asked the captain of the boat about it and he said that they were told that it closed for repairs two years ago and never reopened, probably due to lack of interest in it.

Well, it looks so scarry to me right up to the edge of the murky lake (as a water skier, I hate trees under the water "YUCK"). I just wondered if anyone has any more information on it. We went to Fort Wilderness and walked around and they even still have the "river country" signs around.

i dunno there was something that was posted a little bit ago about this. I think the general thoughts were that it went down for repairs and did open due to lack of interest. Its a shame really. It was the first water park in America. Oh well times have changed right?

It would be cool if we could get some ariel pictures of RC but i dont think anyone can get above it...

I've heard everything from sanitation issues with the water in to lack of park guests. Personally I'll side with the lack of park guests. It pales in comparison to BB and TL, and those parks rarely fill up to capacity. I don't see how having RC open would really drive any more business to the combined water parks on any given day--it would just give people who want to visit a water park one more choice. And, the money spent to staff and support RC would mean cuts elsewhere.
