Tell me about resolving problems in eBay - as a seller

I have in my listing All Sales final, and no returns.

The buyer says there were stains that I didn't list. Is it appropriate for me to ask them for pictures of these stains? What bugs me to is that the buyer also already left me positive feedback 8 days ago when they received the item!

It doesn't really matter what your return policy says unfortunately. The buyer has to return the item to you for a full refund at their own expense. This is what ebay will tell you too. It's not worth the fight and you would lose anyway. I wouldn't fool with pictures b/c even if there were no stains, the buyer will add some before taking a picture; then your item isn't resellable if it does get returned.

I have had it happen to me a time or 2. Some buyer I never hear from again, others return the item.

Well, the person filed a case with eBay and this was the result:

eBay opened a case because of an issue with an item purchased from you. We reviewed the case and have decided to issue the buyer a full refund of $X.XX. The refund includes the purchase price plus original shipping. The hold on this PayPal transaction has been removed.

This case is now closed. You are not required to reimburse the buyer or eBay, and this case will not be counted in your seller performance evaluation.

It wouldn't have bugged me so much if the buyer had been half-way nice about anything. But, I guess it takes all kinds, and I was bound to run into a not so friendly one along the way! I can at least say I did everything fairly and honestly, which is what counts.

Did you receive the item back yet? That is part of Ebay's return policy. Paypal can hold the money until a tracking number shows delivered, but doesn't issue the refund until it does.

If there is no tracking back, call ebay and explain that the buyer never contacted you again, that you were waiting for a response. They can, and have, overturn a claim. I swear some of those are handled by computer and not humans that can actually read what happened.

Geesh! I don't think I want to sell on eBay anymore!!!

Very informative thread. I always list as 'no returns, all sales final' also. I had NO idea that doing so meant nothing. I guess I will have to change my terms wording.

Makes me leary though because I have, in the past 8 years of selling, had people say that stuff was broken, etc. after leaving positive feedback stating that everything was fine...

I had someone do this on a high dollar item. It was a nightmare and made me sick to my stomach for weeks. We kept asking for picture of the damage and he would skate all around it and not send them. ebay finally closed the case siding with us. I wont sell on ebay again. It was to stressful and not worth it.

I had someone pull something like this on a very high amount item and it made me nervous. I was very nice but clear I know I sent the right item, they waited awhile and I wasn't sure what they did to it. Eventually they went away and never filed with ebay, though they threatened to.

I'm sorry ebay gave the refund :(. I have all sales final, no returns on my auctions too. It's really not worth selling anymore sometimes.

I'm not sure if you all noticed but ebay is the one who refunded the buyer and let them keep the item. They didnt end up taking any money from the seller

We have had this happen twice, once recently. It sure seems to tell a buyer they can get away with filing a claim like this and possibly getting a refund and the item. Kinda stinks in my opinion. Ebay acts like its no big deal to a seller...hey we refunded from our money and no strike against your account...yeah right and you just created another PITA buyer
