Tell me about Photopass?

So I have been reading about it on these boards, (oh the things a WDW virgin learns on the boards!) so I have been looking around on the Photopass web site...

I think I get the jist of it... you have a card, you scan it, and a photographer takes your picture, and the photos are available for purchase online. It is all free, until you order your prints. Is that right?

Where are these photopass places located? How expensive are the prints? I was thinking this was a good way to make sure to get some family pics on our trip.

Also, I really want a good pic of my family in front of the castle. Is there a photopass there?

Any experience with it?

TIA!:thumbsup2

I think the prints were pretty expensive. You can order a CD and that was pretty expensive too, but if you have alot of pictues, it's worth it. I think it runs around $130. We got a pciture in front of the castle at night! One in front of Spaceship Earth and one in front of the tree of life.

Now if you go to the budget board, they have photopass groups. You get 5 or 6 people in your group. One person is in charge and sets the account up. You all load your pictures on the same account and you can add stuff to them, etc. And then the CD goes to that person (you each pay a portion of the price) and that person copies your pictures on a CD for you and send it to you. So far they seem to work really well. I'm trying it for the first time in March.
I am also going to try and get more photopass pictures this time around. I need to find them more. I know they were at alot of the character greetings, but not all.

Photopass photographers are found at most of your typical photo spots - ie in front of the castle, up and down Main St, in front of SE at Epcot, etc. and at a lot of the character meet and greets.

The first time one takes your picture they give you a card. Every time one takes your picture give them that card to scan so you don't have multiple cards that you are trying to keep track of.

It is free for them to take the photo but then you buy prints there, when you get home or you buy the cd. On our most recent trip, we pre-purchased the cd which is $99 (a savings of $25). The cd has every photo taken by a photopass photographer your entire trip. You then have rights to the photos and can get them printed in any size and as many times as you want. If you plan to get a number of photos taken, this is the cheapest method. I think Disney charges around $12.95 for a 5x7 (or you can buy packages). We got a number of family photos doing this which we did not get on our first trip.

Can I ask how you prepurchased the photopass? I did post the same question on the budget board, but haven't gotten any answers yet. I went to the photopass website, but didn't see a prepurchase option. Thanks!

For $100, how can you not order this. You can get some really great shots that you otherwise wouldn't be able to get. This is definently going on my list of must gets. I love that you don't have to purchase prints from them and that they give you the copyrights.

I realized that I forgot to mention that the only photos taken that cannot be put on your photopass card are the ones that are already part of a package deal at meals. For example, at CRT they take your photos and give them to you as part of the price but they cannot be added to your pass. Also, you can't put the photos on your photopass when they take them at meals and try to sell you the photo package - like Chef Mickeys.

We were very happy with our pre-purchase!

thats not entirely true. If you purchase the pictures, yo ucan also have them added to photopass.

Here is what the photopass site says.

• Cinderella's Royal Table at Magic Kingdom® Park
(photos included with meal price)

• Restaurantosauras at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park
• Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort

Thanks for clarifying! When we were at CRT which includes the photos they would not take our photopass card - maybe they misunderstood what we wanted or maybe it was an uninformed CM.

I have heard people refused at Chef Mickey's too. I think it's uninformed CM's.

maybe the key is the footnote -

Tableside photo purchase required to add dining photos to your Disney's PhotoPass ID.

so it sounds like it's a "purchase with a purchase" deal - you purchase a tableside photo on the spot and you get to add it to your photopass id.

what do you think about that explanation (as I'm making it up! :cool1: )

When you buy the pictures at dinner, there is a photopass code on the photo. You enter that into the account. The CMs will not scan your card.
