I am going to WDW for the free dining in Aug.. I have heard very mixed reviews about Ohanas. My kids are going to be 8 and 10. At first I was thinking I wouldn't do it. Now, when I hear about hula hooping (my kids' fav.!) and coconut races, I am starting to reconsider. Can any child participate or are they chosen? Also, I don't eat any meat. Will there be anything for me? If we do go, is there a good time or a specific location to ask for? Thanks for any info.!

if you dont eat meat, it is not for you.

We went last October and my dd's had a ball - hula lessons, coconut races, ect... Any child can participate in the events. We also were able to see wishes. Being that it is a meal revolved around meats, I'm not sure what they can do for you. You can always ask if they can make something different for you. I know that we had a great time there and are going back in august, it's definatley worth a try if you work out the food issue. Good luck.

I'm not too worried about the food. My DH and kids all eat meat. I just think the entertainment might be fun for my kids. The hula lessons and races sound great! I'm more into them having fun, then my getting to eat alot. (There's always dessert!) Did you enjoy the food? My DH never gets meat made for him, so I'm sure he'll be happy.

My kids loved Ohana. Both participated in the coconut races and the hula hooping. As for the food, while I eat meat, it is not my favorite thing. I loved the veggies. I swear I could have drunk the salad dressing out of the bottom of the bowl. And the potatoes were phenomenal! I think you will be fine. :teeth:

Ohana is our favorite Disney restaurant! Our kids (ages 4 and 2) love all of the activites that take place during the meal--and when they are happy, we are happy! Also, if you are there at the right time, you can even see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom, right from your table. Do go...you won't regret it!!

I thought the food was really good. My kids loved the games (anyone can participate). You'll probably find plenty to eat...there's salad, potatoes (which are yummy!), veggies, and shrimp (do you eat fish?) along with the meats. And don't forget the dessert....this was the BEST dessert, hands down, that I had the whole trip (and I don't even LIKE bread pudding! LOL)...

We're going in a couple weeks - and I'm another vegetarian with omni DH/kids.... I've been told my the CM that took my ADR that they WILL make a special vegetarian dish for you at Ohana if you ask them about 3 days in advance - just call and let the chef know.

We'll see how it works, I'll report back!

Thanks for all the help! Kitka, let me know what they make for you. I am definitely going to book it today! Thanks again!

We love 'Ohana and it is our favorite resort restaurant. Our kids love the coconut races although I think they enjoy hitting anything with a broom. There have only been a couple of times when the food was a little dry but we go about 5 times throughout the year and have done this for several years now.

'Ohana Family Feast is one of favorite places - we've been there about a dozen times since it '96.

I have a vegetarian friend who told me they will give you a very nice noodle dish if you don't want any of the meat. Also, some of the ample appetizers are meat free. If you eat fish, there is sometimes at least one fish or shrimp entree (although I see the most recent menu doesn't have one).

The coconut races and hula hooping are usually around the 6-8 time frime - after 8 or so, it can get more sedate.

I do hear they replaced my beloved pineapple and caramel. I bet the new bread pudding is good, but that pineapple was great.

Ohana's was one of our favorites. In fact, we ate there twice on our last trip! The second time we had a seat by the windows and got to see Wishes. It was our last night so that was a real treat. The kids loved the cocunut races and the hula hooping. I have to say, it is pretty loud with all of that going on so be forewarned :)

We just loved the food and they were able to make separate kids meals for the children. Give it a try!

Do the games start right away? I want to make an early ressie, but I want to make sure they have the entertainment going on at 5pm. I'm glad to hear that they allow kids to get something else. My 8 yr. old is so picky!

When we were there, they had games going on intermittently. We were there for quite a while, and our kids were able to do both. There were so many kids that night that they actually broke them down into groups so everyone could have a turn.

My 6 year old is a picky eater too. Our server offered to get him one of the kids meals from next-door Kona Cafe. I believe he had a cheeseburger and fries, and he was still able to pick off of the Ohana food if he wanted anything (which of course, he wouldn't touch it! LOL).
