Tell me about Ohana for dinner

LOVE O'hanas! It's our favorite restaurant! The food is delicious, and I'm not even a huge meat eater so that wasn't necessarily a draw for me. Though the meal is served family style, they will provide children an alternate meal (hamburger, chicken strips, mac-n-cheese, etc.) if they're picky like mine. The atmosphere was fun; my kids loved learning a hula dance and participating in a coconut broom race. They even gave them leis to keep. Such a great restaurant that you for sure need to try it for yourself to see if you like it.

We have always had a great experience for Ohana's Dinner service. It is crowded, but it's to be expected. So much fun, everyone in our family loves this place and is a must do every yr.

to try Ohana for dinner in March. We've been for breakfast and my kids still say it is one of their favorite character meals. We really enjoyed the family style instead of a buffet where you are constantly getting up and down. Since I have already booked this meal I am choosing to only read the favorable posts. I don't want to dampen my excitement!

I liked it but I'd like to see them offer different flavors. Everything kind of tasted the same, from the noodles to the chicken to the beef. Don't get me wrong, I'm planning on going back. But something more savory would be appreciated.

Also, they overcook the potstickers.

No. I think it is one of the worst places to dine at WDW.

50/50 split is right. The first time we ate dinner here two years ago, it was FANTASTIC. The food was to die for, and the kids' entertainment was perfect.
Then we went back a year later, and thought it was just okay, and swore we wouldn't be back. The food quality was down, and the entertainment for the kids was horrible (apparently they have a new DJ or something like that.)

But now I'm torn between adding it in for next trip.

For those of you that don't like it, what would you recommend for dinner instead that would use 1 meal plan? It would have to be on the monorail, either at one of the 3 resorts or in Magic Kingdom. Also no crystal palace or grand floridian cafe. Any advice or should I just stick with Ohana?

Chef Mickey's is a buffet with all of the characters.

Otherwise, 'Ohana is not BAD, and you're sure to like SOMETHING they bring out to you....you might even LOVE it!!!

It's going to be 4 adults and no children on this particular trip, we'll be eating at tusker house for breakfast that morning so I don't know if we'll be able to handle another character meal like Chef Mickey's in the same day, haha. I'm not very picky so I might just roll the dice with Ohana. Only other options are things like Tony's Town Square or The Wave and nobody has anything good to say about those restaurants either!

I said I would quit going to 'Ohana entirely if the service was bad again (two strikes on previous trips) but the server we had on 12/9 was awesome. So was the shrimp, they were especially good. They did serve awfully fast though. I can take this place once every couple of years. So maybe I would look into going back in 2013, but there's no way I'm going to make a reservation that requires a credit card hold.

I have been trying to get an O'hana dinner reservation for our first or second night in February and haven't had any luck. *insert tantrum right here* lol

We're heading down in February too....I've been checking every day for an available reservation at 'Ohana for dinner and finally got one yesterday....so excited! It will be our first time there but I've heard good reviews! Good luck!

We did breakfast at Ohanas on our last trip and absolutely loved it. The service was great and so was the food. I made an ADR for dinner on our next trip and I cannot wait. It sounds like something we're really going to enjoy.

TDC Nala, from what I understand, most all the restaurants require a credit cart hold now, because if you don't cancel and don't show everyone on the ressis is charged $10.00 - yes, that's right!! I just made ADR for "Ohana and they took my credit card and told me that . Of course, on the plus side, it will help to make more availabilities as people will be more reluctant to make several ressies for the same night and then decide at the last minute where or if they want to go!!! I'm all for it .

It is not all the restaurants, or even nearly all the restaurants. It is only restaurants that feature character meals (including meals at those restaurants that don't feature characters, like 'Ohana dinner) or signature restaurants. There is a list on the Reservations board. Not counting CRT and the dinner shows, which are prepaid, there are 19 restaurants on the list, so there are still plenty of restaurants to choose without booking one that requires a credit card hold. I have decided that I will no longer book reservations at restaurants that require a credit card hold. Doesn't mean I won't eat there anymore, just that I won't do it with a reservation.

TDC Nala, I stand corrected - from my conversation when I made my ressie, I was made to understand all of them required a credit card hold, sorry for the misunderstanding. But, as I said, I am glad for the change because I have heard many people say they just decided at the last minute to change their plans for whatever reason and it kept others from getting their ressie. Now, that there are penalties, people will be more considerate - not speaking of you, just in general.

I just made O'hana reservations and was surprised by the CC request, but I think it's a great idea, at least for the larger restaurants. It took forever to find a day with availability last year when we were booking for spring break (There were two time slots for two different days out of the WHOLE week were there at O'hana). We settled with 4:00pm reservations, and had to wait extra long before anyone sat down and they kept calling names that didn't show. It was really annoying. This will make people take booking more seriously, and help the people who plan ahead with less wait time.

Also, to the OP, we love O'hana and return every year. I am not a huge meat eater, but I love the wings, dumplings, salad, bread and dessert. It is more than enough and I say just go for it. There will always be people who like one thing and hate another!
