My DH and me and DD (7 months) are going to DL in March, and I wanted to find out about the new Nemo ride. I don't know anything about it, except I think it's in subs under water? I am a little claustrophobic, and I just want to know if it's that bad, and if DD will be scared.

TIA!

You can go to Youtube and do a search for disneyland Nemo, and you will come up with a ton of videos people have shot while riding in the subs. They do look a little cramped, so if your clausterphobia is bad, it may not be your favorite ride! There are apparently some scarier scenes with the angler fish and the shark, but if your child can watch the movie, then the ride isn't supposed to be any scarier than that.

There is also a larger viewing area in the back of the sub, apparently for handicapped visitors, that might not feel so closed in...someone else who has actually ridden it might be able to help you here.

Best of luck!

My Mom is very clausterphobic too & she has emphazima (sp?) & really started to panic when entering. Once she was in & sat down she was totally fine. There was plenty of head room which she said helped ALOT! Try it, how often will you be there & if you step in & can't handle it - walk out before it starts.

I never thought at any point that it was scarry at all. I only rode it once, but don't remember any part, unless your scared of Bruce?? (ha-ha)

We took my nephew who was 11 months last year, and he wasn't scared at all. Actually, he loved the ride. He was pointing and laughing the whole time. It was totally his favorite thing.

DS turned 11 months on our trip, and he got a little fidgety in Nemo. At first he was fascinated with the window, and the bubbles, but then he got bored. So, I'm afraid I missed a lot of the ride trying to keep him happy! He certainly wasn't scared though, just bored, and a little angry that I wouldn't let him lean over and look out the window of the guy sitting next to us!

The handicap accessible viewing area isn't in a sub, it's a separate place and you watch it more like a film (biiiig screen, I hear). It's also good for those with claustrophobia.

I was on the sub with a family, and when the wife realized she was going to be the very furthest away from the exit, she started to freak out and said she couldn't do it. No one was seated yet, and we got the attention of a CM and she got out of the sub.

I don't consider myself claustrophobic but would never do anything like spelunking (going into caves), and I did have a *bit* of a problem as the sub goes under the falls and through a passage to get to the main part. But just get close to your window and look up; you can see how close to the air you are. That helped me.

I think at 7 months she's not going to have the same reactions as an older kid might have...she'll probably just be as happy as she was before the trip. Just, for the sake of fellow sub passengers, try to time it so she does NOT make use of her diapers during the trip! Pee'ew! :)

I have some issues with claustrophobia. It's mainly tight crowds and areas where I feel like I can't excape if I need to. Elevators don't bother me but the tunnels in playplaces do especially if I can't see the exit and anything that has to cover my face like scuba gear.

I didn't have any issues getting on the sub or sitting down and waiting for others to get seated. I did have some issues once they closed the hatch because we sat there for a bit waiting on the sub in front of us. It was stuffy in there and I started to feel like I couldn't catch my breath and then the panic started to set in. I had to keep talking to myself to keep the panic from getting worse. Once we started to move, I felt a little better but I had to keep looking out the window at the top of the water. I finally found if I kept my face in the window opening where I could feel the air and couldn't see anything except the show, I was fine.

I have some claustrophobia issues, and have issues about being under water, and I was able to do the ride without too much trouble. We did get delayed in getting back to the dock towards the end and I had to a moment of starting to panic, but I just kept reminding myself we really weren't deep under the water and I got through it.

Is it acceptable to ask to be seated nearest the exit? I have a bit of claustrophia-I need to see the exit or be near an exit sign under the Tree of Life waiting for It's Tough to be a Bug show at WDW. This is my first(and perhaps only)trip to DL and I don't want to miss what I hear is a great ride!

I'm sure you could ask them if you could. It means not being first on the sub, and I'm sure someone would be happy to get on ahead of you (just don't remind them they'll get off later LOL). I think it would just mean you're sitting near the stairs that lead to the hatch.

Right...but you cannot leave in the middle of the ride. If it's okay as long as you are sitting near the exit, you would be fine. If you need to have an available exit at all times, you would not enjoy the ride, because you cannot get out partway through.

I did not find it at all claustrophobic, though. It was a little crowded on the sides because the seats are close together, but there was plenty of room and I did not feel boxed in at all. Just had to get a little cozy with the other riders. :)

The angler fish scared me and I am 27 years old! But it was more like being startled for me. For a little one, though, they might be truly scared. I would cover DD's eyes or turn her around when you get up to the part where it is completely dark. That is your signal that the angler fish is coming. The shark was not as bad because it is a video rather than a model, as I remember.

Ok count me out. I was trying to work out if I could do this ride and I have now been convinced that I will freak out. Need to get out if I start to panic.

I was actually starting to have a panic attack just reading the posts:scared1:don't get me wrong I usually love all types of rides but can't handle being trapped.
Thanks for the warnings:thumbsup2

But be sure to go to the accessible area, to watch the "ride". It's just a room, you don't go under water.

It's good to know yourself. The woman who had to get out of the sub while we were boarding tried to push herself so she could experience it with her little boy (her husband and son still rode), and thankfully figured it out while it was still easy for her to leave! I only hope someone told her she could watch the "show" in the accessible room!
