The end of October will be my first trip to DL. I'm a WDW vet. What can anyone tell me about Mickey's Fun Wheel? I keep seeing it referred to as Mickey's Wheel of Death or something similar. The pictures of it make it look so benign. Admittedly, I haven't looked on You Tube for a video. What's so bad and/or scary about it?

You can choose to ride in a stationary car or a moving car. The moving ones are the ones who say it's Mickey's Wheel of Death. We only did stationary for many trips, but finally tried the moving ones. We loved it. It wasn't nearly as bad as its reputation.

Everyone has to try it once! Actually, I really like it, unless I am riding with my younger son. If you ride in the stationary cars, it is nothing, but 2/3s of the cars are on rails, so they move while the ride is moving. It is fun, but can get intense rocking going.

They have barf bags next to the moving seats. That tells a lot. I rode it once and I thought it was pretty intense, but I also had a fear of heights at the time.

Here's an excerpt from my trip report and you can see my husband's face: (I really enjoyed the swinging cars)

"When we got done, we headed to Mickey’s Fun Wheel. My husband did not want to go on this ride at all but I convinced him to go on it while also going on the swinging car as well. Mwahahaha.

He started out smiling!

But it started going away.

Here is when he was done & we hadn’t even fully gone around the wheel yet!

I really enjoyed that attraction but my husband said it was a never ever again."

Stationary cars might be better if you're not too sure. The views from the top are very cool, and it makes only one revolution after loading up the cars. There are no seatbelts on the swinging cars, so it is safe, but if you have any type of vertigo or get sick easily you might not want to try it. My family has no problem with the swinging cars and almost always ride those, but I have a lot of friends that won't go on them.

Did the swinging cars on our first trip - never again. DD and DH were fine but I almost lost it (my lunch and my sanity) on that ride. I love all rollercoasters and rides that spin (although the Teacups with DD is getting to be a bit much). The Wheel of Death is not for me.

I have been on all sorts of roller coasters, virtual rides, etc. like I'm sure many of you have. I have also ridden Mickey's Fun Wheel numerous times since I live local to DLR and DCA and visit weekly. For some reason on MFW I have to face a certain direction or else I don't feel well afterwards regardless if I'm on the stationary or moving buckets. You may feel just fine and enjoy the ride you never know but as someone previously mentioned it's a must do ride at least once. Have fun.

Oh, I only do the stationary cars, and it's still the Wheel of Death! I hate the rocking feeling. I thought stationary meant non-moving. Incorrect! It just means less moving. It still swayed WAY too much for my preference. Even worse, for me, was that I was on it with strangers (a little old couple) and DD, so the weights were off and we seemed to be extra-rocky because of it. And seeing the WOC "spikes" up clearly meant that we would be skewered upon our flying death! And there's no handles in the cars, so I was trying to wrap my fat fingers around the mesh chain....

It's been 4 years, and my heart is still pounding thinking about it!

I haven't tried the swinging cars. I like the stationary cars because they go higher and have a better view.

The swinging cars are beyond scary. Give me TOT or Scream-in any day over them.

Actually I still consider it WOD and I've only been in stationary. You can see the moving cars around you. And they are moving. Hugely. Swinging back and forth and back and forth and ugggghhh. Can't do it.

Love the moving cars. Fun and fear are so closeley linked.

Have to admit the original Wonder Wheel at Coney Island is actually smoother and funner depite being eight decades older. Have no idea how they built the Wonder Wheel, but it doesn't even feel like it's moving (until the car starts to roll).

Glad you posted. From the picture it just looks like a standard Ferris wheel, which my kids would good on. Good to know there is a difference of what car you go in.

It has two separate lines so you decide before you line up if you want the swinging cars. I saw a woman get off the swinging cars, put her entire head straight in a trash can on the platform and... well, you get it. Ride the swinging cars at your own risk!! And have fun!!

The swinging ones weren't scary to me but left me feeling pretty sick, and I don't get sick on rides. I love the stationary ones though.
