Tell me about Malibu

We were considering a beach day combined with whale watching, but whale watching is not ideal when we will be there. Someone mentioned Paradise Cove on another thread and I began looking at it. it is beautiful, but can we get shells there? What else is there to see in Malibu? How far is this from Disney?

Have fun trying to get to the beach. The residents fight tooth and nail to prevent people from accessing the public beaches next to their homes. Many have taken to installing signs claiming the beaches or (public) pathways are private or other things such as installing no parking signs. The city doesn't really help much with public access, and the county and state end up doing that.

Paradise Cove is beautiful. Parking is expensive. Not too many shells. There is shopping (all very "upscale") and the Malibu Pier. There is the Getty Villa. It's about 60 miles from Disney.

The state had to fight for free public access to Paradise Cove. They still charge a small fortune for parking, but they no longer charge for walk-in access and no longer stop people from accessing the beach with surfboards.
