We will be eating at LeCellier for the first time when we go in Oct. I've read some rave reviews of the soup and seen some yummy looking pictures. When I looked at the recipe on allears I see that it has onions. I love cheese but I hate onions. I know, I'm weird. :upsidedow Did you think it had a lot of onions? Have any onion haters tried the soup? I was looking forward to trying it but now I'm wondering if I should get something else.

Thanks,
Debbie

Hello fellow onion hater! I'm with you - can't stand the things. :) However, for me, its more about the texture than the taste. If I can see or feel the nasty slimy little buggers, then I am DONE. But if there is a hint of onion flavor but NO pieces, then I am OK.
I had the cheese soup last fall, and LOVED it. I honestly don't remember finding any onions in it. Possibly they get all blended up? I don't remember tasting them either, but it has been exactly one year now....

WAAHHH! One year ago today I was on my way to the World... WAAAAHHHH!! Ok, I am better now...

Back to the cheese soup. I loved it, especially with the breadsticks to dip in it.

Thanks, Tanya. Glad to know I'm not the only onion hater out there. Ok, I'm going to try it! BTW, I'm the same as you with the texture....one bite and I know it's an onion before I can taste it. Ick!

I don't mind onions and I don't mind beer...both of which are in the soup. I've never noticed either one to stand out in the soup.

I hate onions, but I don't notice them in the soup. It is quite yummy.

I agree on the onion texture thing. If I do eat them, they must be so caramelized they almost melt. I didn't notice any onions in the soup. I agree with the previous poster that they must be blended in. I love that soup!

The cheddar cheese soup is the only thing I know of that DD will eat that she knows has onions in it.

I want to try it as well - but I dont eat bacon - so I guess I can just ask for it without the bacon??

You can get it without the big chunks of bacon on top, but IIRC, there's some bacon in the soup itself. (My dad's a vegetarian, so we asked. He's not particularly strict about it, so he had some.)

I'm not a fan of the famous cheddar soup, myself. The batch we had was too salty and had a slightly gritty texture. As theme-park food goes, it was fine (certainly nothing bad enough to send back) - just overrated.

Tell you about the soup ?

Hmm...

Heaven in a bowl. Paradise on a spoon. With the very first sip it's like there's a party in your mouth and everyone's invited....

'Nough said ? :goodvibes

just reading all the reviews of my favorite soup, I can just imagine I am eating it now.....mmmmmmmmmmmmm:goodvibes

There is bacon mixed in the soup. I agree with you on not being a fan of the soup. It has a very gritty texture and it's very strong tasting.

I am a big fan of Cheddar Broccoli soup and I think I was expecting something more mild like most cheddar broccoli's are. This had a very strong taste to it.

The soup is made with some kind of animal stock, I don't remember if is beef or chicken. If you are strict about not eating meat like I am, you can call Le Cellier directly at least a day in advance of your meal and ask that the chef prepare a separate batch of soup using vegetable stock.
