Tell me about laundry onboard

We’ve gotten very spoiled with our DVC 1-BR’s. We pack way less and just do laundry during the trip. I see that there is a laundry area on the Wish. How does it work? Do we pay them to do the laundry? Is it like a laundromat where I can go do laundry? First time cruising with Disney and with kids so not sure how it works.

Assuming the Wish is like the current ships, it will be like a laundromat. You can charge loads to your room key and either bring your own soap or purchase it there as you need it.

You can pay DCL to do it or use the washers and dryers on board. You pay for the W,D and detergent using your KTTW card and it is charged to you on-board account. Keep in mind the W&D can get busy at times depending on how long the cruise is.

There are several self-service laundry rooms on board. The deck maps will show the locations. If the one closest to you is full, you can use available machines on other decks. If I recall, the Navigator app will notify you when your load is almost done so you don't have to stay in the laundry room (unless you want to). It is very annoying when the dryers are sitting there with completed loads but no one comes to claim them and you can't use those machines.

Interestingly, the Wish deck plans show only one, somewhat larger laundry area instead of having an area on each deck. I wonder if it'll be harder to get machines when you want them...

Easy solution just don’t do laundry onboard 😉 💕
I’m joking with you I know this is a highly debated topic.
I’m a wait till I get home to do laundry girl

That's just impossible for me. I really don't like putting wet clothes in my suitcase, so any cruise with swimming is a cruise with laundry. And for longer cruises, I don't even think I have enough clothes to make it to the end without laundry!

Probably, unfortunately. Having a washer and dryer available is so important during a cruise imo. There are so many opportunities for clothes to get wet from rain/pool/ocean, sweaty, sandy, smeared with sunscreen, etc. It seems like I always need to do a load during a week-long cruise.

There is a station in the laundry room that you use to add as many washes, drying, and detergents onto your Stateroom Key Card that you need. Load the washing machine add the detergent, close the door and hold the card at the sensor pad. You will have selections that you can make such as cold, hot, delicate, etc.
To save money we take snack sized zip-lock bags and fill each with one wash worth of detergent powder and a zip-lock with drier sheets and put them in our check-in luggage. You'll save enough to buy a couple drinks at a bar or coffee at Cove Cafe.

Just got off the Wonder a couple days ago and did a load of laundry.
Laundry was located on deck 2 and 6 (I went to 6)
I think 4 washers and 5 dryers.
You used your KTW card to by tokens for laundry, $1 a token. Wash took 3 and dryer took 3.
If you didn't bring your own, there was a machine to buy detergent (I brought a couple pods with me, so I didn't check how much)
What was nice, was you got a notification on the navigator when your wash/dryer cycle had ended, so you knew to go and take it out. No need to keep checking.
Room also had an iron and iron board

What do you do for your vacations that are over 10 days? Are you lucky enough to not have to check luggage and drive?

We did use the laundry room on the Magic for a small load of outer wear, and my son sent his tie to the onboard Dry Cleaner, but my wife refuses to wash intimate apparel in a public laundry so those were washing in the stateroom with the detergent you buy in the Travel Stores, and either line dried in the show (most ships have a cloths line in the shower) or if need be, the in cabin blow dryer was used to dry them.

I did 11 days for a running cruise to Alaska (1 night before in Anchorage, 1 night after in Vancouver, and 1 night after that in Seattle) in carry-on only and without doing laundry. Mix and match. Roll the clothes. Easy peasy.

While this is ideal, we are doing a Med cruise this summer with a few days beforehand in Rome. It would be difficult to pack for almost 2 weeks.
