Tell me about lanyards please...

I don't pin trade, but I bought my dd a lanyard at the gift shop at HOJO's last year and I loved it. I used it more than she did, it had a zipper closure and held my credit card, all of our passes, and my cell phone...plus any cash that I decided to take into the park with us.

I have to see if I can find it...it was very very handy.

The only thing I use my lanyard for is pins. I have heard of WAY too many people losing the little pouch and being left without ticket, money, id, etc.....

If you're worried about the Velcro closure, couldn't you pin a thick safety pin through the Velcro to double-secure it? Obviously for a child you'd want a break-away (and even for an adult, a break-away would likely be safer on rides)...but if that's your only objection to a lanyard, I'd think you could fix it.

Or if you brought a needle and thread you could run a few stitches to close the lanyard--the stitches would probably break away if subjected to massive pressure but there would be extra security. Again, you'd be purposely overriding a safety feature, but it's an option for security.

I'd be paranoid of losing my ticket/other things on a lanyard too. But I love the idea of a thin wallet! I think I wore a purse on my last Disney trip (WDW) and before that just used cargo pants pockets.

I can't stand to wear a fanny pack personally, but have no objections to putting a camera/other small bags on a belt. I did buy a water bottle lanyard on my WDW trip but looped it around several times to fasten onto my belt. While I wasn't worried about losing the water bottle :) I'm not big on weighty things around my neck.

The lanyards and pouches at DLR are connected with metal loops and closures.

I've had the plastic part where the metal loop sticks in the pouch break after two days into our last trip. Thankfully I was sitting at that time and noticed that the pouch fell into my lap.

EXACTLY why I only use my lanyards for pins.

I use a pin and just secure it thru the velcro part on my lanyard. DBF does this as well as DD12, we do not allow DD9 to do this yet. We have no worries about our lanyards falling off, but again we take them off when we go rides they might get caught on something or we think they might fall off.

I've never had that part break but I've had the zipper closure go sliding off the other end.....I've spent more $$ on lanyard pouches the past few visits. The zipper flies off and then the pouch starts to rip down the side. :(
