Our trip is 30 days out and we were looking for another breakfast outside of the parks. After searching the menus I came across Kona Cafe at the Poly. The food sounds delicious, now what do you experts think? We are already booked at the Donald Breakfast and wanted to throw in another. We have it between Kona and Captains Grille??? Welcoming suggestions :flower3:

Breakfast at Kona Cafe is really good. They have Tonga toast, which seems pretty popular with folks, and other breakfast items. I try to eat there once for breakfast when I'm at WDW.

I would not recommend it for anything else though. The prices are outrageous for dinner and the portions are on the small side. Dinner is always at Ohana when/if you can get in. :rotfl:

Breakfast at Kona is wonderful! The Tonga Toast is great, but I think the Pineapple Macadamia pancakes are even better. So, sooooo good! My DH swears by the Big Kahuna. We always eat breakfast at Kona right before we make the sad drive back home.

I say go to Kona Cafe. You won't regret it!

That's what I needed to hear! This is our third trip on the free dining plan. We have been trying to check out some new places each time. Thanks again for your input. Oh yeah, I have already had my eye on the tonga toast:cool1:

We have never had a bad meal at Kona. Its one place we always make sure we eat at when at the world...:thumbsup2

We love Kona Cafe and eat there each trip, but not usually for breakfast(once, and it was very good). Same goes for Captain's Grille, not breakfast, but very good, also. We like eating dinner at these two because you can also use the DDP for the fix-price chef's choice selections and get appetizer, entree and dessert, good use of DDP is you like the choices(no substitution are allowed).

Connears

And, may I add to the above posters' comments - Lilikoi juice - YUM! We always have at least one breakfast at Kona Cafe - for me, it's the macademia nut pancakes......:cheer2:

Kona Cafe is delicious. I know many people have been talking about their breakfasts, so I should probably tell you that the dinners are phenomenal. It's a favorite of the family's! And since you are on the dining plan, order whatever you want! It is a little expensive, but the free dining plan is really a great offer. :)

We are in the minority in that we hated our breakfast at Kona. We had an 8 am ADR on our departure day and I was really looking forward to it but it was horrible.

DH got the Big Kahuna, DD got french toast, DS got pancakes and I got Tonga toast. The pancakes and french toast were all dry, the ham and sausage were burned, the bacon was cooked so crisp that it was in pieces on our plates, the bananas in my tonga toast were borderline rotten...the food was truly horrid. We would have sent it all back had we been able to find our server or any server for that matter. When she finally emerged from the kitchen, it was so late that we just cut our losses and headed for home. So we all left hungry and stopped at McDonald's before we hit the interstate.

Love the fish tacos !!!!!

Big Island Tacos - served in a House-made shell with pasta salad and green papaya slaw:

Fish Taco - Seared Talapia with tomato salsa and mango mayonnaise $13.99

Sorry, looks like you are only looking for breakfast foods, I have not eaten breakfast there, only lunch.

One of our favorite restaurants for breakfast is Kona. My wife likes the Kona coffee and pancakes and I like the basic ham and eggs.

We have ate at Kona for both lunch and dinner and they were wonderful. The one thing I like about Kona is that each time we seem to get in pretty close to our ADR time, whereas other restaurants we wait 20+ minutes passed. Sometimes it is the simple pleasures at Disney - like less waiting ;). Also, the service has always been great.

We have eaten at Kona Cafe for both breakfast and dinner and both meals were great. I have to agree with a previous poster, though, and say that service was sketchy there both times we ate. Breakfast was particularly bad in that our server disappeared for a long time and we eventually had to ask somebody else to go find her

another vote for Kona @B'fast. I just came back and ate there 2 times in row. tonga toast and the macadamia pancakes...yummy
tip: skip the meat as a side and ask for fruit instead!
Service was great too, which might have been due to the fact that I ate after 10 am.

Our favorite breakfast on property -- we eat here EVERY trip. Enjoy!!

LOL @ dinner portions being small at Kona.

You can't go wrong at either Kona or Captain's Grill for breakfast.

Kona is great IMO for both breakfast and dinner. You can't go wrong with either one!

Totally agree! The Kona has become a must do for my trips to WDW. When I'm with my sis and her family we do breakfast, as she loves the tonga toast. I love dinner!:)

We were just there for dinner a couple of weeks ago and my DH said it was his favorite meal. This was our first visit to Kona and we will be back. We had to wait a few minutes for our ADRs. I got the fixed price meal with Mahi Mahi and it was delicious. I wasn't too thrilled with the sweet pototoes - cold, dry and hard but everything else was very good. Loved the bread, the pot stickers and the chocolate lava cake that I shared with DH. He said his steak was the best he had all week.
