JR's is a must do for my group. We fit it in as a group at least once each trip. One member of our group can be found there at any given moment...I'm surprised they don't charge her rent.
That would be me that Diane is talking about. Funny should should mention that they don't charge me rent. One of the piano players joked that they were going to time share me out a table, and another calls me a shareholder in the bar. And yet another thought I was a local because I'm there so much, but I live 1100 miles away.
Anyways, Jellyrolls is a great place to spend a night. The piano players are fantastic (if you see Scotty, Ray, Mike, or Michael, tell them that Karen from Boston sent you). They really work well together, and all of them are immensely talented.
The piano player who sings Rainbow Connection is Scotty--the tall guy with glasses in my signature picture. He normally plays with Ray and they do a fantastic job together. They just really play well off each other. They are my favorites.
Doors open at 7:00 and pianos start at 8:00. The first hour or two is relatively quiet, but it picks up between 9:30 and 10:00 (I think a lot of people head over after Illuminations). I like the feel of the first hour, when the piano players are very chatty with the crowd, and you can just shout out requests. They'll slower songs that you might not hear later in the evening when the crowd is bigger.
Tuesday nights are usually the busiest, as a lot of cast members go that night. It tends to be a younger and rowdier crowd. Friday and Saturday nights are the next crowded, followed by Wednesday and Thursdays. Sundays and Mondays are usually pretty quiet.
Definitely try to put a few requests on the piano. It is a lot more fun when they are playing the songs you know. Most people tip a buck or two a song, but if you want something played quicker, it helps to put down a bigger tip (one of the piano players calls a $20 the Jellyrolls fast pass).
They do not serve food at Jellyrolls (although they do have popcorn there).
Just be warned that Jellyrolls is addicting. I've been accused of making many folks addicted to the bar
