Tell me about internet access at resorts...

Hi!

I know lots of people post from their vacations at the World. I've never had this come up, but this year I will need internet access the week we're there, as I will be waiting to hear about some interviews. We're staying at the Boardwalk Villas and I'm bringing my laptop (56k modem).

Can I just plug my laptop's phone cord into the jack and use my dial up internet access (e.g., Earthlink?) What's the charge like?

Seems I know lots about WDW but little about cybertechnology

yes you will be able to pull into the phone line. are you a DVC member? the phone call charge is reduced for DVC members; otherwise, it 75 cents a local call. do you have the local dial numbers for the providers?

also be sure to plug your modem cable into a phone-jack (usually on the side of most WDW phones) labeled as "Data." Many hotels, including WDW, use a digital phone system. To dial using a modem typically requires an analog system; using the special data port will allow for that to happen.

Don't forget to dial 9!

Something to consider......check to see how much it might be to add a web browser to your cell phone service is you have one. We use Sprint and have unlimted web browsing service as part of our plan. We purchased a simple wiring system and you can surf the net anywhere you need to. Makes for great access! Good luck!

WDW is in the process of adding high-speed internet (cable) to the resorts. We were at BCV 2 weeks ago and they were installing them there. It will cost approx. $10/day.

Thank you for all your helpful replies....I don't have the local numbers yet but assume I can find them on Earthlink's website?? I should probably check that out.

I did hear about the upgrades to high-speed internet service, but I don't think BWV are expected to be done by December. If so, it'll be a nice bonus I guess!
