I'm trying to get up the nerve to ride Hulk and Dueling Dragons on our next trip. I'm basically a wimp when it comes to coasters, but I love RNR at MGM, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain. I don't like anything that's too rough and jerky and I'm not crazy about huge drops. RNR is my absolute favorite because it's so smooth and has the inversions (which I love), but no big drops. How do Hulk and DD compare to Disney's coasters - if I like RNR will I like these? Do you get jerked around a lot? I don't want to come off with a headache or backache!

Thanks!
Kim

Hi Kim

Both Hulk and DD are great coasters, my nothing like the "baby coasters" at Disney. Both fire and ice on DD feature first drops of over 100 feet, so my advice would be to ride ice first as it less intense than fire and has a slightly shorter first drop than fire. Also both dragons are floorless! But I hate heights too, keep your eyes shut on the climb to the top and you should be fine, it's a buzz trust me!

Hulk is cool and has a surprise twist to the tale (I won't spoil it 4 ya), but a bonus is it actually has the luxury of a florr *LOL*. If you only want to ride one of them I suggest Hulk as it is far less extreme than DD and more fun. I am frankly relieved DD is down in January when we visit as my bf can't make me go on it again!

Hope this helps

Both Hulk and the Dragons are very smooth coasters. I think Thunder MOuntain is jerky. Hulk and Dragons are fantastic. When I visit Universal Parks, I get up early and go the park alone to ride the coasters when the park first opens. I LOVE riding in the first row of the Dragons. Your legs will be flying in the breeze on the Dragons. The Hulk is GREAT. Not at all jerky--very smooth and FAST. Try Hulk first. It's a bit easier to handle.

Hulk is MUCH smoother than Dragons. I find Ice to be about as rough as Hulk, and Fire is the roughest.

Is the launch of the Hulk like launch in RnR? How does the rest of the ride compare to Krakken at SeaWorld? They look similar. We went on Krakken last summer and loved it!

the Hulk launch is different from RnR becuase RnR is from a standstill that it shoots you. Hulk starts moving you up slowly, then fires you out and into a zero G roll. as compared to Kraken, Hulk is MUCH better and rougher. Kraken is too smooth for my tastes.:o

I also loved Kraken. Kraken is floorless- Hulk has a floor. The launch of Hulk is MUCH BETTER than the launch in RocknRoller Coaster. It's also a longer ride that RnR coaster. Kraken has a higher drop than Hulk and is longer. They're both great coasters.

They're both smooth coasters so you don't have to worry about getting banged up. Dueling Dragons, Hulk, and Kraken are all made by B&M(Swiss coaster firm whose rides are very popular). If you like RNR, you should definitely enjoy the coasters at IOA. RNR is made by Vekoma who makes some of the most painful coasters out there, although RNR is definitely one of their better coasters. In my opinion, I like Hulk best followed by Fire Dragon, Kraken, and then Ice Dragon.

I'm a big chicken and was surpised when I managed to ride RnRC last year! I have just returned from riding the coasters you ask about and I am ready for something even bigger now!! They really are a thrill the first time you ride!!! I rode Hulk first, it seemed really smooth and I liked the fact that it had a floor. The launch is excellent because you don't have time for the feeling of dread to build up!!! Then I went on the ice dragon and I decided I preferred the floorless kind!!! When I saw Kraken I thought there was no way I was going to ride, I think it's because of a fear of the unknown-it does go underground!!!! So I passed up Kraken and next we went to Busch Gardens. I didn't like the look of Kumba because it looked like it was in need of maintenance!! Just a lick of paint would have given me the confidence, but I did go on Montu. I don't know how old Montu is but it looks all shiny and new so I thought I would risk it. It looked very much like Kraken and with much encouragement I had an excellent ride. I came off the ride wanting to go again but it was really late in the day so I couldn't. When we went back to Seaworld I was feeling really brave and did Kraken teice in a row, which was fantastic!!! Rode Fire Dragon and Hulk and Ice again later in the holiday and second time round they all seemed so tame!!!!!! Cedar Point next for me I think!!!!! On our final day it poured with rain and there were no lines so we rode all Universal's coasters again, but this time it was really painful!!! I don't recommend riding in the rain with contact lenses-I missed seeing my feet against the sky backdrop because my eyes had to be so tightly shut!!!! Hope you can find the courage to ride and enjoy the experience!!!!

If you though the RNR was smooth then you are in for a real treat with Hulk and Dragons. When are you planning on coming down this way. Dragons is going down for a couple of months the beginning of the year to be re-painted so the track is actually blue and red instead of orange.

Montu is much newer than Kumba (both are great coasters) and I find Montu to be more fun than Dragons.

I just returned from being at Universal and Disney this past weekend. The first coaster I went on was Rock n Roller Coaster and I have to say, I really disagree with other people's opinions on here, I thought it was a very bumpy coaster and my head was continuasouly tossed around, I was not impressed at all. I then ventured over to Islands of Adventure and tried Dueling Dragons Fire and loved it. This was probably the smoothest coaster I have ever ridden, unfortunately I did not get to try ice. I also did the Hulk and this was by far my favorite, I think because of the beginning of it, although I did feel it was not quite as smooth as Dueling Dragons. I dont think I would probably ever ride Rock N Roller Coaster again, just did not like it. And by the way, I live 2 hours from Cedar Point, so I definitely know my coasters! LOL

B&M coasters tend to be smooth. Hulk and Dueling Dragons aren't as silky smooth as like the Great Bear at Hersheypark or even Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure, but I've never experienced a headbanging on any B&M.

Now the Flying Unicorn is another story. The end breaks on that thing are hard. They will fly you forward! :)

One of the park's signature rides, this dual coaster is poised to be a crowd favorite. For the first time on the planet, two interlooping, inverted steel coasters interact with each other. Guests are strapped into Fire (the red one) and Ice (the blue one) dragons, with their feet dangling in the wind. As the coasters speed up the first incline -- a whopping 125 feet into the air -- a computer weighs them and decides which to send out of the chute first. After dropping them 105 feet, gravity proceeds to send each coaster speeding through more than 150 feet of winding track.

If weighted correctly, the coasters come within a foot of each other at three points during the two-minute trip. Each coaster features gut-wrenching inversions like a zero-gravity roll, corkscrew turns and vertical loops, taken at speeds of more than 50 mph.

TIP: For non-coaster fans, walking the queue line is an adventure in itself. Almost two miles long, the queue takes guests into a cavernous dungeon full of cadavers and Medieval ruins. Guests are also briefed on the history of the Fire and Ice dragons and get to see some of the beasts' handiwork.

Common Question: What is the difference between the 2 Coasters?
