My wife and are are staying at HH the last week in March - 2007. Tell us some great things to do and some things to stay away from? What is the best thing about the resort? Also, what are some "must see" or "must do" activities, restaurants, etc. in the area?

it is on its own island - so little chance of outsiders getting on it.

it is close to shopping you can actually walk.

it is nice and quiet.

some rooms allow you to see the water and wild dolphins (mind didn't)

but remember you are not on the ocean. so you either have a long walk, bike ride, take DVC transportation (you need to call them for this - sometimes a couple of times), or drive over (this is the quickest by far) to the beach house which is along the ocean. the beach is lovely.

Best thing about HH DVC is the staff. Other than that we don't like much else when compared to the other HH options. The staff is fantastic at HH DVC. My guess is they need to be to make up for the other shortcomings of the resort.

We also love the staff at VB.

Have a great trip.

They have lots of activities. Have enjoyed Dolphin boat ride, kayaking, and the HH Island tour - you learn about the history of HH, etc. Lots of good places to eat too!

How hard is it to get ressies 7 months out? :confused3
For what time of year? We always book at 7 months (or less) for March without difficulty, but I hear summertime would be real tough at less than 11 months.

I believe there are more 2BR units than anything at HH, so if you are flexible with your dates in summer, you might get one of those easier than other units, particularly studios. My first time visiting there was in summer of 2000. I called at the 7 month window and got the last week of July in a 2BR. The dates were not my first choice, but I was very flexible since I teach, so I lucked out. We liked it so much, and because of the resort being so small, I decided to buy points there. Summer is the prime season, although I am sure there are other great times too. I have been for Spring break in mid-march and encountered rain and cold temps for the whole week. Others have reported great weather during March visits, so you just never know.

Yup, we've had weather in March all over the place (another teacher here). We've had sunny, in the upper 70s all week; we've had cold, wind, constant rain, temperature in the 50s all week. But we live near the "excitement" of South Padre Island, a wild spring break location, so it always beats that for serene, peaceful.

We were there the first week of April 06, no problems getting 1brm 7months out. The weather was great, although we were told that it had just started getting warmer.

Favorite Things - Kayaking, Sitting on deck with my morning coffee. Walking around resort and Shelter Cove. Beach.

Great Food -
English Pub ( I can't remember the name)
Parrott cove or cafe for Breakfast- at shelter cove right across the bridge - awesome crab poached eggs..
If you like oysters ask around to find a restr that serves local oysters, they are the best.
