Tell me about Groupon

I've just signed up-- tell me how to get the most out of it, please!

Just keep checking it daily for new deals. And make sure you watch the expiration dates of the ones you buy.

Last week we went to a new restaurant using one. Tonight we're going to another restaurant using one. And in 2 weeks I'm taking a class on glass fusion beads using one. I love groupon!

Groupon is great, but my biggest piece of advice is to read all of the terms CLEARLY. I've accidentally let them expire or tried to do something they're not covered for before and it stinks.

Love Groupon, but as PP mentioned keep an eye on those expiration dates.

The only good thing is in many states while they don't have to give you the extra benefit they have to at least give you what you paid in value, i.e., if you paid $10 for a $30 GC after it expires they have to give you $10 in value. so check your state regs.

Also do check the fine print because some can be combined with sales but others can't. For example, I bought a Hasbro Groupon and it can be combined with sales because it's entered as a GC (saved $10 in shipping) but the one I bought for Dali Decals can't as it's entered as a promo code.

i've never had that sort of experience. We LOVE Groupons...they make us aware of things we would have not know about or ever done AND they make things we DO like to do affordable. We got half price whale watching, half price schooner cruises, Whole Foods gc, yoga classes, white water rafting, restaurants, shows...all sorts of stuff. We LOVE groupon...just be sure to read the fine print and expirations as mentioned above.

I agree. Read the fine print. Most of them are very straight forward, but some (especially the getaways) have restrictions on when you can use them., or how many you can use at one time.

And only buy the ones you really think you will use Our neighbor loved it so much she was buying almost every offer, and then realizing she would never use half of them

They can be a great thing though. I bought a groupon yesterday for photo blankets for my mom and MIL for Christmas for over half off. We've bought bowling certificates for our teen sons to use with friends. The gluten free bakery here had a groupon a couple of months ago that I'm hoarding for DD's birthday in November.

Can I buy a groupon from another city....provided I don't need to go to that city to redeem.

Like the Hasbro one, was that listed under a particular city??

Yes you can.

We just used 2 groupons today. Spent a total of $50 to buy the 2 for a local plant nursery and got $85 worth of plants plus another $15 credit to use later. And they don't expire until March 31st so we have plenty of time. Tonight we're going to dinner on another one - $15 free.

Groupon is great, but do pay attention to the small print. The only problem I ever had was Old Navy would not accept it when they ran their BOGO sale. Well, they would accept it but I could not get the additional item free. No big deal, I used it later. I have bought several gifts with it (subscribe for the city where the in-laws live) as well as saved a ton on vacation for museums, eating out, etc. It you have a trip coming up subscribe for that city as well. Have fun!

Small print can still leave some holes, I got what I thought was a real good deal 75 dollars to clean the carpets in three rooms... What wasn't in the fine print was the extra fees for moving any furniture, the extra fees for cleaning any spots on the carpet, the extra fee if you had a dog or cat.... All told the price after adding in the hidden fees was the same as their normal price. So don't forget to call and verify with the actual business if it is any type of service, they tend to be the ones that have the hidden fees.

I love groupon and sometimes buy 2-3 a week! If you aren't happy with a particular vendor you can get a credit for your groupon. I had two that were booked and I could never get an appointment so I got a credit.

I have also used livingsocial and like them as well. Just sign up for their email notices and you will be in the know when deals come out. People will oftentimes post notices on the budget board of national groupons.

thanks! Now can you tell me where it is?? When I open Groupon it just automatically opens to the city closest to me (I guess I did that when I signed up), and it lets me search for different cities.....how can I find national ones??

They don't offer the national ones all the time. You will know because it's bigger companies like GAP or Old Navy, the Body Shop or Bath and Body works. They will say use online only. I think my Old Navy one had a specific store I had to redeem at. I usualy search the Florida ones every day.

It's labeled GrouponBot on the app on my ITouch. I guess, just search "Groupon" in the App Store? I've had it so long I don't remember how I found it!
