Thinking of going NEXT year....I know, I think WAY ahead.....anyway, when do they put the Christmas decorations up? How long do they leave them up? What could we expect from the parks around Christmas?? I'm thinking next Christmas (2007) DS is going to be over the whole Santa :santa: thing  and I was thinking of going to UO sometime around next Christmas. I know I'll see trees decorated and the Grinch, but what else?? Any special tickets we'd need? Anything blacked out? I'm really in the dark about what goes on around Christmas....somebody, please enlighten me! :thanks:

:santa: We're going this Christmas(December 27-30). The decorations are put up some time in November and are not taken down until after the new year. They have a Macy's Parade every day with some of the same floats used in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I am waiting for the UO website to post dates for the Christmas activities. I plan on posting a detailed trip review when we get back so hopefully I will be able to give you a lot of good information then. :santa:

That'd be great...I'd appreciate it! Before it was Macy's Parade, it was Gimbel's Parade...and my Grandpop actually was in charge of the crew building those floats! He even rode along side the parade (with his tools) in case there was a problem w/ one of the floats during the parade. I hope they aren't the SAME floats... :rotfl2: ...since my GPop is 90!!

in the old Boneyard area of US they open up Balloonopolis, where they bring some of the balloons down from the parade and tie them down. you can walk through and touch them. they also have the history of the parade posted for people to read. they also mount some of the smaller balloons around New York.

Grinchmas is great, but the Grinch didn't have his lair last year because of the Trolley construction. they have Who-billation every day, and they retell and act out the story of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. the Who's are out and about for interaction and photo's.

it's one of our very favorite events.

The storytelling part and re-enactment part of Grinchmas has been cancelled this year. The Whoville characters and Grinch will still be out and about as will picture taking with the Grinch. The Macy's parade will still be at Universal but no storytelling for Grinchmas at IoA this year.

that's too bad, it's always been a fun little show. thanks for the update. :)

Will the story telling be cancelled for good or just this year?

That was my favorite part of my trip last year.

Aww, that's really sad news. It's an amazing show. In fact, I was hoping they'd move it to a more permanent location. Maybe even a Grinch attraction.

I'm disappointed to hear the grinchmas show is cancelled. What could the reason be other than reducing spending and I'm sure the character cutbacks didnt help. I think I'll wait to see Universal's plans for the holidays before deciding to go this year.

Thanks phamton for always giving us up to date info. Do you know if the grinchs lair will be back this year or is that gone forever too?

I'm curious why the show was cancelled as well, especially if the Who's are going to out and about. it's not like it has a production of Fear Factor. it's an intimate little skit.

The Grinch's lair is now the Trolley queue.

I did know that, thanks. I guess I was just having wishful thinking that it would be considered again someplace else. But I didnt give any thought as to where.

Was Mt Crumpit there last year? Is that gone for good too?

I love that time of year at Universal. The decorations are beautiful and the christmas music piped in is great! I'm not sure if they will do it this year but it snows too! The characters and especially the Grinch are so much fun. After around Dec 11th the parade and grinchmas usually starts up. We saw Santa at Universal. There arent usually any special tickets needed for anything. The hotels are decorated and they have some special holiday happenings too.

The parks have a gret feel to them during the holidays! :) I will pull out my park maps from last year to see what was listed that they may repeat again.

They are still planning on doing pictures with the Grinch but where, I don't know. Grinchmas show just never attracted the crowds that they expected. They are planning some new things.

I'm glad they're planning new things. just don't take away my santa caps on the light poles at the Studios. our daughter loves to bounce off of the Macy's stars in Balloonopolis as well. :)

I'm looking forward to more Grinchmas info as well. When do they unveil the Christmas offerings? While we were there, we were discussing the idea of going back for the festivities. We thought we'd stay @ HRH or PBH (If we can convince our DS to stay there instead.) From there, we'd do the holiday thing at WDW & Sea World. Thanksgiving would be a nice time to go, but only if UO starts the holiday season that early? Bev, we're all ears! :listen: :teeth:
